alloween weekend. There seems to be something exciting, childlike and intriguing about Halloween. Maybe it is the opportunity to dress up again as an entirely different persona no matter what your age, or maybe it is knowing that something (that won't hurt you) will catch you off guard. Whatever that certain something is about Halloween, I have to admit, I am looking forward to celebrating it this weekend.
While there are many aspects of this holiday to enjoy, within the intriguing components of this holiday there is also a reminder of what it means to take risks, of what it feels like to be uncertain and maybe a bit scared even if we know no matter what happens we'll be okay.
In order to live a full life in which we are each living up to our maximum potential I can't help but accept that a certain level of risk must be a part of it. Calculated risk - most definitely. Spine-tingling curiosity risk - absolutely. After all, it is only when we jump that we cover amazing distances. Yes, sometimes we will miss the mark, but with each leap we gain experience, confidence and understand how to fine tune the next leap we most certainly should take.
While it is easy to go about life following the same routine, walking in the same path day after day, we waste the opportunities that life can bring if we don't stretch our boundaries, act a bit more boldly and do something where the outcome isn't certain.
Just this weekend consider a risk you've been contemplating more seriously than you have before. Whether it is something small - allowing someone new to get to know you, or grand - presenting an idea to your boss or turning in that application for graduate school, either way, give yourself the chance to excel.
 In this week's newsletter you'll find Banana Republic's Spring 2012 collection that already has me impatiently waiting to add a few more PanAm
inspired dresses to my wardrobe. Also, the topics for this Monday's Inspirational piece and Wednesday's Why Not . . .? post tended to focus on the idea of claiming responsibility and respect for our lives. While it would be easy to think the outside world affects everything thing we do and how our lives turn out, the beautiful reality is that we have a lot more control than we think with regards to our futures, and if we are determined to carve out a life that is uniquely our own, each of us can make it happen. View First, Seek Self-Approval for a reminder of how great your own power is and then take a look at Why Not . . . Ignore Horoscopes? as reassurance that your life and what happens in it is not like anyone else's.
Lastly, I want to thank you for subscribing and for emailing me with questions about style, inquiries about life advice and comments full of feedback and support. While I can't seem to get ahead of my inbox (where did October go?), please know I save every email you send. Thank you for making The Simply Luxurious Life a weekly read. I am flattered and humbled every day I have the opportunity to sit down and type.
