The ability to dream is a fine and amazing gift to possess. Being able to imagine what could be is how progress o ccurs and inventions materialize. The opportunity to envision a better life for ourselves often is the sole motivation to endure the struggles and obstacles encountered on a daily basis. However, just as important as it is to dream, it is also vital that we learn how to be present in our day-to-day routines. For if we can't find contentment and goodness in the today, it will be difficult to ever be satisfied and fulfilled when we realize our dream.

Think of your ability to find pleasure in the everyday as insurance for when that grand day comes when the dream is in your fingertips that you can confidently appreciate it for all the effort you had to invest to earn it. Appreciating the everyday may require some adjustment to how you do things. Perhaps currently you simply get through the day. Why not structure your day (yes, even a workday or weekday) to include at least one thing to look forward to? Perhaps saying no to an unnecessary obligation so you can have 30 minutes to sit without interruption and read your book or scheduling a visit to the cafe to indulge in a sweet treat and time to flip through your favorite magazines?

Whatever your schedule, there are gems to be found, ways to design your everyday life so that it is more enjoyable each and every day you wake up.

Just recently I started to rethink my morning walks taken in the early hours when the sun is still asleep. Should I shift them to the afternoon so that I can enjoy them even more and instead create a morning ritual that is geared toward welcoming the day gently? Perhaps meditation or a few awakening yoga poses?  I haven't yet decided, but I quickly reminded myself of the fact that we each have more control over our daily schedule than we may at first realize. After all, how we spend our days is how we spend our lives.

So why not make the small changes here and there that could make a big difference in the quality of our lives?

Here is a post from the archives you might enjoy . . .

In this week's newsletter, you'll find inspiration and ideas on how to continue toward your goals, as well as simple tips on how to get out of your own way when it comes to creating a fulfilling and opportunity blessed life. Autumn is in full swing now, so Thursday's Style Inspiration offers some ideas on outerwear that is stylish and functional. And cashmere stripes is what I'm clamoring for now that the temperatures have dropped a bit.

Also, if you've had your eyes on any of Diane von Furstenberg's wrap dresses or silk blouses, be sure to stop by her online store as everything is 15% off when you use the promo code EXTRA15 (sale extends through October 14th). And if you are a fan Tibi (chic, modern classics), they too are having a fantastic sale marking full priced items down 25% with the promo code FAMILY25.

But if you're in the mindset to just relax and get away this weekend - no fuss or excess - I'm right there with you. My Friday is going to be quite leisurely - a home cooked meal, a lovely glass of red wine to toast the season and catching up on Scandal and Elementary. Then I'm going to spend some time with a birthday girl (my mom) and celebrate the start to another amazing year of surprises and adventures. I hope you too have wonderful plans in store. U
ntil next week, I'll see you on the blog.

Stripes are never something I stray from simply because summer is over. During this time of year, look for this nautical classic in beautiful soft cashmere sweaters. Pair with denim for day or chic trousers for evening. And why not slip on a pair of heels mixing casual classics with a feminine touch?
