hat causes you to become rejuvenated and inspired? This week I've been pondering the answer to this question quite a bit for no particular reason except that my mind is constantly on and busy (I know many of you can relate).  After taking a day to trip to Portland this week and returning home to my sanctuary within the same day, I realized almost immediately a difference in my mood and my ideas. I felt refreshed. I felt invigorated!

Why you might ask?  It's not like I've never been to Portland before. After all, I did live there for a time, but it's been about four months since the last time I visited and even in that short amount of time I had become in need of a reboot.

For me, it's the changing of the scenery that I take in as I walk down the street, the people I meet, the shops I pop into, the clothes I am able to peruse through and the conversations that I have that  stimulate, or re-energize, something that is laying dormant within myself.

I guess what I'm trying to convey is that if you're feeling that the same old routine that you've been obediently following isn't doing anything for you at the moment, or you've begun to question yourself, take an opportunity to change the scenery up - even if it is just for the day.  It is amazing how with only twelve hours of being transplanted in a different town, state, country or routine you can quickly see things you had never seen before, appreciate what was working that you may have become blindly accustomed to and come back to the drawing board the next day with a clearer, more energized mind. So whether it's choosing to go see a movie you've been anxious about, dining out at a new restaurant that serves cuisine you don't normally try or hopping in the car and visiting a town that has a completely different vibe than the one you live in, make an appointment with yourself to reboot - sooner rather than later (and write it in ink in your planner).

Speaking of the desire to change things up a bit, as promised a giveaway was posted this past Wednesday for a lucky reader to receive blogger Holly Becker's, founder of the successful blog Decor8, first book - DECORATE. I couldn't not speak more highly of this book after reviewing it and based on the comments that were shared, so many of you have beautiful homes and opportunities just waiting for an interior designer's expertise.  This particular book allows you to become your own interior decorator and that is why I am thrilled to have this book to giveaway. If you haven't entered yet, you are not too late - just click here and leave a comment by midnight on Saturday, July 9th - pacific standard time.  The winner will be announced Sunday afternoon.

Speaking of giveaways, there will be yet another one this upcoming week, so be sure to stay tuned - especially if you are in the need for a beautiful versatile dress. The beauty of this giveaway (without giving too much away) is that the winner is going to be able to pick out their own style, so be sure to stop by next week to enter.
While this week was a short week for many of you, it was a busy week in Paris at the Fall 2011 Couture shows, and there were a few that caught my eye as they exhibited absolute simply luxurious collections - Elie Saab and Giambattista Valli - gorgeous and breathtaking.

I hope July is treating you well whether you are in the middle of summer or winter (hello all of my Aussie readers!). As I've said many times before, take some time for yourself this weekend - pamper yourself, do a little shopping, cook your favorite meal, spend time with those that you love - whatever it is that makes you thankful and full and ready to begin the week refreshed. Thank you again for choosing to subscribe to The Simply Luxurious Life newsletter, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
