 NORDSTROM - Shop Fall Boots
,

All of a sudden the fall chill has arrived. The house needs to be warmed up when I walk into through the door, the blankets need to be a little bit thicker and I'm craving something warm to sip as each day winds down.

October tends to usher us inside, and we find ourselves searching for different ways to entertain ourselves. I must admit, I find it a treat to curl up in my favorite chair with a hot cup of tea and a pile of newspapers, magazines or a favorite book. However, I realize that everyone has their preference. Needless to say, find time to dive into your hobbies, your loves, your goals and your passions. Become so emerged in what you want to create and cultivate for your life that idle gossip and unnecessary worries have little, if no time, to cause consideration.

While I firmly believe we all need to find time to relax and unwind, often when we don't have something that engages our minds as well as our hands, our minds can wander to topics and ideas that are hurtful, wasteful and draining in a way that is necessary.

So whether it's reading a book that takes you away from your day (I'm currently reading The President's Club) or focusing on completing a goal that contains many little steps, this continues to exercise your mind, allowing you to feel productive, and perhaps having learned something new along the way.

I don't know about you, but when I head to bed at the end of a productive, mentally and/or physically exhaustive day, I sleep better as my mind craves time to be rebooted. Conversely, when I haven't challenged my mind or done something productive throughout the course of my day, my mind can wander and worry endlessly and unnecessarily, keeping me awake to toss and turn.

So regardless of what season it is, strike a balance of working toward goals that interest you and engage you so that your energy is being spent in a beneficial and life-enhancing way.

A post from the archives you might enjoy on the topic of productivity:

With Paris Fashion Week wrapping up this week, I was a bit nostalgic for the beauty and tranquility that the City of Light conjures up simply thinking about walking the cobbled streets and dashing into a patisserie or boulangerie for a savory treat. So you will notice that fashion and fall garnered most of the posts on the blog these last few days (10 Essential Shoes Every Woman Should Have, Why Not . . . Revel in October?, 5 Ways to Bring Tranquility into Your Daily Fall Routine,  and Style Inspiration: Paris Fashion Week & Layers of Fall, etc).

As a way of keeping original content on the blog, I'm toying with the idea of posting future favorite runway looks strictly on my Tumblr and Pinterest.  You may have noticed that none of the spring collections were posted on the blog these past few weeks (except for New York); however, rest assured, you can always stop by Pinterest and view my boards dedicated to each city's fashion week (New York, London, Milan, Paris). I'd be curious to know your thoughts.

So now with the major spring fashion weeks behind us, it is time to indulge ourselves with the sartorial comforts we find in our very own closets, find a crackling fire snapping in the fireplace to plop down next to and savor a cup of lavender hot chocolate, or whatever other simple pleasures you may crave.

I do hope this past week has treated you well. Have a lovely upcoming weekend, and until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

-Shannon
