"Half of the troubles of this life can be traced to saying yes too quickly and not saying no soon enough."

ecently, I've been somewhat contemplative.  I'm not sure if it is the prerequisite that winter requires before it arrives or simply because of the opportunity to spend more time indoors due to fall's gradual chilly weather, but I must say I enjoy the excuse to slow down when I come home from work. To curl up with my magazines and books (fall and winter tends to be the time when I lean toward more classics and biographies, I'm not sure why) and find time to sip a cup of tea or a hot peppermint mocha while I watch the rain tap against the windows and the window begin to blow the first of the leaves to the ground.

One of the ideas I've been bouncing about recently is where the balance is regarding technology.  It seems to be every where now-a-days, and even being a blogger and constantly online and with my Blackberry, I can't help but ask myself when is there too much technology in my life that hampers my quality of living?  With the Blackberry outage this week, I began to probe this question even further, and while I don't have a concrete answer, I do believe there needs to be a line drawn.  And where that line is drawn is absolutely going to differ based on each individual.

First let me begin by saying, technology is a gift and a means to a opportunities, communications and a way of life that I couldn't imagine living without, but when we become too dependent upon it to get through our day, I believe that is where each of us needs to slow down and ask ourselves the most important question, "If wireless was unavailable, if GPS no longer worked, and so on, would I be able to get along successfully?"  And if the answer is no, for our own sakes I think we need to be sure we take a few steps back and become aware of how to going about business when things such as technology don't work because, guaranteed, there will be times like this.

Trying to live a simplistic life while making a living online is a dynamic dance, but I think it is something that if tended to can be done quite effectively and to our benefit.  Why not today, take a moment and assess how depend you are on technology (tablets, smart phones, wireless, etc) and then determine what is a need and what is for show or simply a want.  When each of us can discern this difference and be comfortable enough to toss the unnecessary, I have a feeling our lives will become even richer and the technology we do use will be something that we appreciate even more.

In this week's newsletter, the Foodie Friday recipe returns with one of my favorite treats for fall.  Although this time, while a classic recipe, there is a simple special ingredient that makes an amazing difference.  I think you will agree - click here to check it out.

Fall is in full force here in the Pacific Northwest and so you will find some fall inspiration in this week's Style Inspiration. With some looks from Paris and beyond, have a look.

I hope October is treating you well whether you are watching the leaves slowly begin to change colors or for my Australian readers, gearing up for summer's sweet rewards. There is something quite lovely about the mid-point seasons (in between the extremes) that I truly adore and revel in. Time to take a breath, time to right things in our own lives before the holidays and the travel take charge. Do enjoy your weekend and thank you very much for choosing to subscribe to The Simply Luxurious Life newsletter. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

Style Suggestion

Keeping in mind the wool cropped pant trend, I pulled together an outfit that is all about classics that can be worn again and again each fall. From the nude pump, to the gray wrap wool coat, add some simple bangles and a shoulder tote and chic will certainly be your descriptor.
