Sometimes life can shock us. It can reveal to us something we had not expected, even when we have planned, worked and assured ourselves that what we knew we wanted, upon attaining it, wasn't what we wanted at all.

During the past few months I have learned just this lesson. In my personal and professional life, I have always sought contentment and fulfillment, but recently I discovered that how I thought I was going to attain these two goals is slightly different than I had originally thought.

Even more interesting is that I feel like a burden has been lifted upon making this discovery rather than feeling like a fool. But the only way I could have removed that burden was to ask the question, step over the line of my limits and feel internally what I needed to realize rather than be told by an outside force.

Why? Why did I need to learn this particular lesson first-hand?

Because otherwise I would have always wondered and always had doubts Also, because I knew those that may have given me advice on these issues, while genuine and heartfelt, didn't have the same vision for a fulfilling life as I did (one is not better, merely different). And understanding this difference is not theirs to bear because my life path is not their responsibility.

Fortunately, I do take responsibility for my life, and I knew I had to discover this particular lesson on my own. I can say without hesitation that I am so thankful I had the opportunity and ability to take this step because now I can move forward knowing I am moving in the right direction for the life I am curating to achieve my dreams.

Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? Standing still after having made the leap you've been dreaming of making for ages, only to discover it wasn't what you needed or wanted?

Now I'm not talking about finding yourself in the middle of a change that is uncomfortable. All effective and necessary change is uncomfortable to some degree or another.  I'm talking about instantly knowing innately that something doesn' t fit with your values, ideals and life path. The only way you can know what doesn't work is to know who you are. Which is why taking the time and having the patience to understand what makes your heart and soul sing is the greatest gift you can give yourself.

Here is a post from the archives about the gifts of patience that I think you might enjoy . . .

In this week's newsletter, I'm excited to share with you Isabelle LaFleche's just released second novel - J'Adore Paris - a wonderful travel or weekend read that is sure to provoke a list of places to visit in Paris. Also, I've just begun to venture into a new social media app - Vine - which allows users to share six second videos - so expect short snippets of my journey to create a even more simply luxurious life weekly.

Also, you'll find tips on how to create your very own history to be proud of, the three part series about ensuring you live a long and healthy life continues and of course ample style inspiration.

I do hope your weekend ahead is full of beautiful moments to savor, perhaps a fresh bouquet of spring blooms and time to lose track of. I'll be finishing up a few things in my yard, styling an outfit or two to share with you in the weeks to come and using any extra time to read and relax. Have a lovely weekend and until next week, I will see you on the blog.
