Do you know that feeling when you're at a gathering with a laundry list of people, and you see someone you recognize, but you're not sure from where? You may even know their name, but for some reason your mind is completely drawing a blank on their name and why you know them. It's frustrating, right? When you know something, but you can't piece it together at that moment. And then, almost like clockwork at a random time, when we're no longer at the event where we saw the person, the name and all pertinent information, will flash like a bright sign in your mind. The timing is not what we would have preferred, but at least we have the information we initially were seeking.

Similar to the above situation is how I've discovered some of life lessons are revealed to us. While we may have all the necessary information to figure a particular life question or problem out, often we need time to put the pieces together. I've always wondered, why do we need this time? Why can't we just discover the lessons immediately? The answer to both of these questions I believe is that for whatever reason, we aren't ready to accept the answer or appreciate all that it has to offer. In other words, we are being given a grace period to take the time and understand why this particular lesson is actually a wonderful piece of information to possess once we acquire it so that we don't have to be taught the lesson again.

The tough part for me is always that limbo time in between gaining all the information and the aha moment when I finally learn what I was supposed to. It's frustrating. It's excruciating and often I don't get much sleep because I'm trying to work through everything and make sense of all the new information that has been introduced. But here is my piece of advice. Most people refuse to go through the limbo process because it isn't easy, it often creates more questions and it is a time when we really have to take an honest look at ourselves, our needs, our passions and our priority list - and often that's difficult. But trust me, if you choose to continue to trudge through this valley of ambiguity, when the lesson is realized, it will feel as though a burden of uncertainty has been lifted from your shoulders. Maybe only a single layer, but that one layer is proof that you are choosing to grow into your best self, and isn't that what we're all trying to do?

So whenever you find yourself trying to learn the lesson, but still unable to determine what it is, don't give up. Like the revelation of the "I know that person" frustration at the gathering that hits you the next day while you're sitting down for breakfast, the lessons that will help you make the best decisions for your life will arrive when you least expect them, but when you're ready and need to apply them if only you won't give up trying to unearth the wisdom.

About 16 months ago, I create a list of 26 things I knew for sure so far, and while each of these lessons came about from different circumstances, they were all things I had to be open to understanding. As I work on adding to this list, take some time to look it over and then, maybe, if you have time, make your own list - what do you know for sure?

This past week in New York City was an experience that provided many life lessons, and I want to thank you for coming along with me on the journey. Some of you even tweeted, emailed or commented on Facebook while I was there to recommend places to go, things to enjoy or simply comment on what was being shared on the blog. I want to thank you for taking this time.

In one of my journal posts about my time in the city, I shared how fashion plays a role in creating each of our simply luxurious lives, because as I mention in the post, I know that The Simply Luxurious Life is not exclusively a fashion blog - it never could be, but it will always play a role, based on my experience, in creating a simply luxurious life. Have a look at the post and please share your thoughts on how fashion plays a role in your life.

Speaking of New York City, the Spring 2013 collections were full of inspiration, beauty, and individuality. In the right-hand column of today's newsletter, you will see twelve different collections that contain an element (or elements) of simply luxurious style that I am eagerly waiting to peruse through when the season arrives in stores.

Now that we are into the heart of September, I hope it is treating you well. And remember, per Wednesday's post, while the weekends are something always to look forward to, be sure to discover ways to adorn your work week accordingly so that those five days can be almost as tranquil and enjoyable as the days you can do as you please. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
