The first newsletter of September and with it a slightly different format to the weekly newsletter. All of the same information that was found in the original layout is still included, simply streamlined and better organized. One thing you will be able to do is click on any image as well as the links to be taken to the corresponding post.

And it is as September begins that schedules change, schedules grow fuller and for many, the sun is seen a bit less (for my Aussie readers, more sun is coming!). I must admit, I find some comfort in my September schedule as it kicks off fall. Yes, perhaps we all become a bit more exhausted initially, but one thing I've been trying to navigate, tweak and perfect to the best of my infallible ability is eating better so as to give my mind and body the opportunity to perform at its best.

What does that look like? First of all, it involves a bit of planning ahead, which means finding the time to sit down regularly and determine what to shop for and what to create in the kitchen. It also means, leaving the processed food at the store. Within this approach, I try to look for ways to make it as simple as possible as I know my schedule is full. For example, whatever I choose to make for dinner, I'm trying to make enough for leftovers that can serve as lunch the next day. By doing this I am saving myself time in the morning (as well as money) as I pack my tote.

Another aspect to think about is predicting when you will need an energy boost and when will you need a bit of a snack without eating mindlessly. One idea that I tend to gravitate towards: a handful of almonds, a few slices of your favorite cheese from the fromagerie and one half of an apple while sipping on some hot tea.  If possible, find a quiet cafe table and chair, a tucked away park bench to watch the people pass by or simply push away from the desk for awhile to enjoy a quick ten minute respite before finishing up at the office.

Paying attention to the machine that is your mind and body is essential to crafting a way of life that is balanced and productive yet not draining unnecessarily.

Here is a post from the archives full or more ideas . . .

In this week's newsletter you'll find inspiration moving forward into September, as well as an idea for reflecting on the summer that is just wrapping. Also, I have been enjoying riding my beach cruiser to work this past week which helped inspire this week's Why Not . . . ? post. I'd love to hear if you too enjoy riding your bike and what experiences you'd had. And of course, I have not forgotten to mention New York Fashion Week. While I am not attending this year due to other projects that need my time, I am thoroughly enjoying viewing the live streaming of some of my favorite designers' shows. Be sure to stop by my new pinterest board - NYFW SS 2014 - to view my favorite picks from the runway as each collection is revealed.

May your weekend be restful, rejuvenating and with time to savor a bite of your favorite treat, read a few chapters in your latest book or take in that art exhibit you read about in the newspaper. Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.

As mentioned in this post from a couple years ago, a wrap dress is a wonderful essential item to have in your arsenal (or as we call it here on TSLL - a capsule wardrobe), and a black wrap dress is an even better idea. Why? It can take you from day to evening and also serve as the black dress that should hang in every woman's closet. Diane von Furstenberg is the queen of wrap dresses, as I continually add one to my closet each year (remember to always choose one size larger than you usually do when purchasing DVF wraps), and it is her Jeanne dress with the collar that I particularly love to wear during the day.

However, other fashion houses also make great wrap dresses, and when I discovered that Banana Republic offered the same classic style at less than $100, I must admit, I thought about straying from my favorite designer. Either way, a wrap dress is flattering on nearly all shapes and sizes and is a great foundation for adding fun, signature accessories.
