The therapeutic powers of journal writing are often forgotten when the world around us seems to be clipping along at a frantic pace.  The initial thought may be to dismiss this exercise as unnecessary especially when time is of the essence; however, in the past few weeks I have been reminded of this habit that I sorely need to make myself dive into, especially during moments of emotional turmoil or stress.

The act of putting pen to paper is a healthy way to vent, to sort through your thoughts and make sense of what exactly it is you are feeling and more importantly what caused you to feel this way.

By taking a time-out to pull out our journals, we don't jump to conclusions, we help eliminate the possibility of blowing things out of proportion and saying things we may not truly want to say outside of hearing it in our own heads.

If this is something you've been wanting to try, but are having a hard time incorporating in your daily routine (and it doesn't necessarily need to be daily, but as a relief during times of stress and questioning), turn it into a simply luxurious ritual. Buy a beautiful journal. Purchase a pen that begs to be used. Pour yourself a cup of tea and sit in your favorite spot when you're able to find some time to yourself. Before you know it, you'll be longing for this time, and I have a feeling you'll also be noticing many positive results in your mind, with your emotions and in your day-to-day routine.

This past week the post that seemed to garner the most attention from readers was one that I think so many of us find ourselves struggling with.  The good news is that striving to be a perfectionist comes from good intentions, but if we aren't careful, it can destroy what we've worked so hard to strive for.  If you too consider yourself to be a bit of a perfectionist, have a look at this Monday's Inspirational post

It is indeed spring here in the Pacific Northwest, and as I was working out in the yard last weekend I was again reminded why I love spring so much.  With the tree blossoms, new blooms, many reasons to stop by the local nurseries and pick out my favorite herbs, vegetables and additional perennials, I love this seasonal ceremony of playing "dress-up" with my yard.  Yes, I am comparing working in my yard to fashion, but in all honesty, making the world that surrounds us more beautiful is a treat and a privilege. No matter how little your yard or window box is, dive in and add some color. Not only will you appreciate it, but Mother Nature will be sure to be whispering a silent thank you as well.

I do hope you enjoy your weekend whether it involves much needed time with friends, your significant other or children, or maybe you just need some time alone. Have fun as you let go of your worries and stresses for a weekend, carve some time out for journal writing and lap up all that spring is letting us enjoy (yes, even the rain). Until next week, I'll see you on the blog.
