Success

To laugh often and love much,
to win the respect of intelligent persons
and the affection of children;
to earn the approbation of honest critics;
to appreciate beauty; to give of one's self;
to know even one life has breathed easier because
you have lived --- that is to have succeeded.

A

  pause during the work week, a break for an hour from the regular responsibilities that require our attention on a daily basis.  Perhaps a trip to polish our toes, or a stop by a favorite coffee shop to treat ourselves to a quick sweet treat, or maybe a sip of wine with someone after a crazy, busy day.

With a schedule during the week that sometimes forgets that a full night of sleep is needed, I am finding that scheduling time to just be, to savor the sweet pause of the day, is a mandatory occurrence I need to partake in  at least once during the work week.  Allowing myself to stop and not feel guilty re-energizes me, but also helps me to appreciate how productive I can be when I'm well rested.

Even fitting in a luxurious soak in the tub, as difficult as it seems to be to make happen, is a small way of taking care of ourselves.

So next week, try to plan an hour or two during the work week itself to press pause, to step back from the busy world of constant connection and retreat into your own world.  Your mind, body and spirit will be much better as a result and you will have something to look forward to besides Friday.

In this week's newsletter, I've gathered my favorites from New York Fashion Week that wrapped up yesterday (Thursday) as beautiful fall designs sashayed their way down the runways. Also, in keeping with the focus of allowing ourselves to slow down every once in awhile, this week's popular post was Why Not . . . Have Patience? I think what patient people discover is that having such a virtue breeds more contentment due to the reflection that takes place and time to evaluate and appreciate their progress to the point they are at at the moment.  And Foodie Friday is back this week with a rich, yet easy to make lunch or dinner.

And believe it or not, Valentine's Day is already behind us, but I couldn't help but reflect on What Love Is to me in Monday's Valentine's Day post.  Hopefully your Valentine's Day was what you had anticipated. For me, well, it was simple . . . and a bit luxurious - surprise, surprise - sweet treats and staying home to savor them.

May your weekend bear opportunity, pleasure and peace, and until next week, I'll see you back on the blog.

How do you define luxury?

I think luxury is everything that makes you feel unique in a special way, something that makes you realize how beautiful your life is and is a way of saying thanks for how blessed you have been. In my opinion high prices and expensive brands don´t have much to do with luxury, at less not necessarily. Actually, I am convinced that reading a good book or having time for thinking and relaxing are nowadays authentic luxuries that not everybody is able to enjoy or appreciate.

What luxuries do you enjoy in your every day routine?

The day starts with a small luxury I really love: a very good breakfast. I like savoring the coffee in the very early morning watching the sun arise; it´s one of the best moments in the day. Other every day luxuries I permit myself are wearing my favourite perfume and nice clothes, having tea and cookies in the afternoon, attending pilates classes, taking a long bath with aromatic baht salts and enjoying a good homemade dinner with a cup of wine, candles and music.

What luxuries do you hope to enjoy in the future?

In the future I´d love to have more time for my husband and myself (spending time with him is the best luxury I can imagine), as well as time for writing, traveling and learning to grow and become a better person.
