Spring Cleaning
SALE!

Now that Spring is in the air, I decided to give our website a good Spring Cleaning
and reduced the price on over 25 pieces of land! By over $30,000! And on 11 different listings on our website - including acreage in Nevada and Colorado and building lots in Kentucky and New Mexico! I didn't just reduce them a little bit either! I took over $7,000 off of a 40 acre parcel in Elko, Nevada, $6,000 off of 30 acres in Colorado, and $3,000 off of a gorgeous 14 acre property with big, tall pine trees in the Zuni Mountains of New Mexico! If you have been checking out some land on our website, be sure to visit and see if what you've been looking for is now on sale! With more land coming in the door as fast as we can buy it, the hot prices we are buying at are definitely getting passed along to our customers!

Northern Nevada Economy News

This week on national news I heard about the continued strong economy
in Northern Nevada, especially Elko County, due to the continued high value of minerals like gold and silver. Nevada has more minerals than any other state in the USA. I jokingly commented that it was not news to me, as I had received the same scoop when I attended a foreclosure sale there last fall. I have been dealing in land in Elko for about ten years now and I swear I can't keep enough acreage there in inventory! Elko continues to grow - even in this difficult economy. A sign along the interstate said the Hilton was coming soon -not sure how old that was. The news report said that housing demands continue to be strong due to all of the workers in the area.

I spent the day out in the Montello area exploring land and was thrilled to see what's coming up for sale soon and also a few that we already own! There is a ten acre parcel that sits way up in the Pilot Mountains with trees covering it and one spectacular view of the peak! I had never been up this far on the mountain and found a great road that ran only ten acres south of it! I expect that lot won't be around very long! There was a fabulous sunset
over the Toano Mountains - a real treat! I stopped by the store in Montello and noticed that they had given the motel next door a nice face lift! I also spotted a Montello, Nevada sweatshirt and told the lady at the store that I was going to wear it to the next Elko County foreclosure auction and I would be the envy of ALL the men! Ha!

I chitchatted a bit about the Ruby Pipeline that was laid through that area, as well as the mine that sits just south of the Interstate that is expanding and adding more jobs. The interstate was filled with trucks that have long poles with flags at the top of them - these are miner's trucks and I tell you there weren't just a few... there were lines of them down the interstate and in the
hotel parking lots at night! It is so nice to see good news about the economy! We have sold quite a bit of inventory over the past year to the locals who work there and are looking for cheap land in Elko and Montello to build homes or go play on the weekends.

I was surprised to see that a 1.25 acre piece of land in the River Valley Ranchos, about 15 minutes northeast of Elko, was only 1.5 blocks to the North Fork of the Humboldt River. I myself own 20 acres about 5 miles to the northwest and about the same distance to the river. Someday I plan to watch it snow on the Ruby Mountains while I watch the animals down by the river...the secret!

I viewed a big chunk of land (all 644 acres of it!) located north of Battle Mountain in Lander County. It sits about 1.5 miles away from Sheep Creek which had little fishing jumping in it as it flows right over the road! That was such a treat to find! There is a tributary to this big chunk of land that flows through this property that was dry; you can see in the photo that it was almost as tall as I am! And the sunset was spectacular! That should be available on our website very soon!

I also took a moment to stop and view the Thunder Mountain Historic Site, which sits along I-80, between Winnemucca and Lovelock. It is definitely one of the most unusual historical sites and I really was intrigued by it the first time I saw it about ten years ago. It is a place that the hippies used to trek to in the 60s. Created by Chief Rolling Mountain Thunder, aka Frank Van Zant, he described his roadside art park variously as a museum, a monument to the American Indian, and as a retreat for pilgrims aspiring to the pure and radiant heart.

He gathered all the junk people had left behind over the years and made art out of it, making statements about the sad history of the American Indians. The house is a collaboration of bottles, car parts, TVs, windshields, rocks, horse carts, you name it! You could spend a long time looking at the different things (not sure what to call them, so we'll just keep it at things!) But definitely a form of art! This is really a piece of American History! His son has spent several years getting it preserved and put on the historic registry. It is an unusual look at the plight of the Native Americans.

The first time I visited this place you could not enter and I took some photos through the barbed wire fence. As I pulled my camera away I cut myself really badly on a barb and tore my finger open pretty well. I thought it was a sign that I had better really respect this place! There is a donation box there to help support their efforts asking for $2 per group. We dug deep into our wallets and came up with about $5 in change. As I dumped it into the donation box, I thought about those ahead of me who may have come to this place years ago with just pennies in their pockets as well and I got a big smile out of that!

Next I'm off to Southern Oregon! We are in the process of buying several properties in Klamath and Lake Counties. I wonder what I will find there!
Enjoy!

Char the Explorer at the property in Yucca!

WARNING: You're about to read a LONG one! I often write my
personal thoughts, but seldom do I share them. I am such a believer in positive
energy though! I hope you enjoy this lengthy newsletter - because it isn't just
about the land and sales on my journeys... it's also the people I meet and things
that happen along the way that I love! I
am always excited to go see the land we own - it's like a vacation! What am I
going to see? Who am I going to meet? What new restaurant will I find and what
old one will I go back to enjoy?

Rural America, the country side, wild animals, sleepy horses
in corrals, and enjoying the early spring sunshine while snow still falls high
in the mountains - is it springtime yet, or still winter? RVs out heading north,
blankets of yellow and purple flowers covering the desert floors of Arizona and
Southern Nevada - miles of the desert coming alive! I set out almost two weeks
ago for a bit of pleasure time with the kids, and then was off to Nevada and
Oregon to explore some land! It had been a while since I visited Oregon and it
was much overdue!

The Country Music Awards were taking place in Las Vegas and
we made a quick stop there with the kids who were on spring break. We took in free
concerts on Fremont Street and danced to Eric Church singing Springsteen -
when did I become a country bumpkin? I
really do love the Western USA's Cowboy Country though - maybe that's where I
get it!

I want to send a special shout-out to the two young ladies I
met on Fremont Street. I mentioned their New York accents and they told me they
had been seated in row 9 on the Jet Blue airplane that had problems with the
pilot - I so enjoyed talking to you and hearing your story! I hope I find
myself telling stories on Fremont Street when I am in my 80's with my best
friends!

I used to manage banks when I was younger and loved to
inspire my staff. We had a lot of expectation to perform to high levels of
customer service, accuracy, and so on, but nothing compared to the sales
pressure though. I was taught to sit down with my staff, help them set goals as
a group and then individual goals that would contribute to the group total. We
did things like wearing larger than life pumpkin outfits to promote kids free
savings accounts! Kids that brought in their piggy banks got a free pumpkin... Okay,
I could be a pumpkin for a week! We decorated the branch month after month to
promote whatever management told us to promote.

When management asked us how we always made our goals, won
the sales contests against other branches, and outperformed other branches in
growth, we said, Because you told us we had to! And ultimately we got paid
well for reaching those goals. Just put together a group of hard workers and it's
no problem! It was actually fun and our customers really enjoyed it as well. I
would often tell them positive energy flows to positive energy... I still say
it today! It's as simple as that. Smile and the world smiles back! Try it one
day - give everyone a big smile and notice how many people smile back at you.
Say good morning to strangers as you pass by - you will be surprised how many
will smile and say good morning back!

A few years ago Derek, my right hand man, told me I had to
listen to these tapes he had discovered called The Secret. I think he was the one who told me about
these tapes, but he swears that I told him! I had spent a few evenings listening to the tapes while relaxing in the
tub, as I find it one of the most relaxing places to get in 30 minutes of
reading or listening to something! The Secret is that if you want something
in life and you say it, write it down, think about it, and so on, that it will
happen. If you think every day that you will get a bill in the mail, then
that's probably what you're going to get. If you think that you're going to get
a check, that's probably what you'll get. Have you ever been just thinking or
speaking about someone and later you see them - same idea! Your mindset
influences what you receive - send out positive energy and that is what you will
get back. You know what you get back when you send out negative energy on a
grumpy day!
I wanted to take the kids to Lake Havasu City the night
before hitting Las Vegas and told them I had five days to come up with some
property in that area to visit, so I could write-off that part of the trip as a
business expense. I had plenty of time - 5 days! Later, I mentioned the same to
Derek, noting that I now had only 2 days to come up with some property. I
suggested that perhaps the people I had spoken to a few months ago would accept
the offer I had made them and I could go look at that.
The morning we were going to leave my phone rang. It was
them! Positive energy was flowing to positive energy! A charity in Chicago wanted
to sell some donated properties to help them in their cause: outreaching
to those in need, providing shelter, etc. I am touched that we are able to help
this outreach program! I myself called the Bellingham, Washington YWCA Shelter home
in my teens. I believe in these types of programs and am living proof that
they work!
Back to positive energy flowing to positive energy... My
family and friends often hear me say now It's the secret! And that's what the
kids heard me say that morning as I hung up the phone. Are they believers, or
do they still think I'm crazy? Maybe a bit of both! I sure hope they are
believers! And just today as I was saying that my phone had been quiet lately... it
rang and I answered saying, It's the Secret! There are also a few variations
we joke about that aren't quite politically correct, so put your ear plugs in...
say it, think it, burp it, want it, do it, type it, text it, believe it, live
it, breath it, and be it!
Whatever you do though, think positive!

My Trip through
Colorado and New Mexico!

Finally we got a sunny weekend and I was off like a shot to check out our land in the Park, Alamosa, and Costilla Counties of Colorado! It was a much overdue trip, as it can be difficult to get to some of the properties in the wintertime.
On our way, we stopped by Wolf Creek to watch the locals out snow- mobiling and sledding! I have heard that it has been a warm winter across America, but I was so surprised to not find more snow on the Rocky Mountains! But, luckily for us, that meant we were actually able to drive out to 25 of the 27 properties. Two were sitting way up at the top of a snowy hill overlooking Spinney Park Reservoir. I took photos from below, deciding not to hike to the top!

Hartsel Ranches, in Park County, Colorado, is a beautiful area with lots of rolling hills and open valleys surrounded by mountains and fishing reservoirs. We spotted a few wild horses out on the range. As we sat, they actually walked across the hillside and right up to our truck. The colors of their coats were beautiful! They looked healthy and happy, the prettiest I've seen!

The next morning I did give my hiking boots a workout to the top of a property in the Sangre de Cristo Ranches. It sure was worth the 5-10 minute hike to the top! The views up there are incredible over the beautiful San Luis Valley! It was a difficult, but fun scramble to the top!

I also stopped by Smith Reservoir long enough to dip my toe in and to see some bald eagles take off in flight! And later that day, as the sun was getting low over the Rio Grande Ranches, we spotted a huge herd of wild horses. They were stunning in the glow of the setting sun! It was the largest group of wild horses I have ever seen!

That night I stayed in Taos, New Mexico at The Historic Taos Inn, a local historic landmark since 1936! It tends towards the expensive side, but is definitely on my approved places to stay, grab a bite, and a great cup of coffee in the morning! We had dinner in Doc Martin's Restaurant, which was fabulous! I woke in the morning to charming old wood beams, gorgeous Spanish tiles, and beautiful antique furniture.
Reading the brochure from the hotel, it turns out Doc Martin, for whom the restaurant was named, was the only physician in Taos for 40 years. He even delivered babies in the restaurant we ate in the night before! The Taos Society of Artists was founded in the Martins' dining room in 1912. And it was named One of America's 54 Great Inns by National Geographic Traveler Magazine. People come from miles around just to hear the best live music in New Mexico!

While I was in the area, I also made a quick trip out to the Pine Meadows Ranches to view a few more properties. We have two pieces at the top of the mesa and I wondered if you could get to the top of it in the winter time... The answer this year is, Yes! Again due to the lack of snow the roads were passable and we had no trouble in our big truck. It was well worth the visit, as we found power running through two of the properties!
Oh, how I love my job!

Our 10th Anniversary Sale
is Ending! Only 7 days Left!

The countdown is on to the end of our 10th Anniversary sale! Wow, I still can't believe we've been round for ten years. I have learned so much about land, government, zoning, and more. But most of all, I have learned about the people who have a real interest in the land we sell... my customers!
The majority of our customers are people who have a strong desire to one day have a piece of land to call their own. It's the American Dream! They want a place to get away from the city, a place to grow a tree or a garden, a place to call home. I have posted my phone number all over the Internet in hopes that you will call me, so we can have a great conversation about the land you are seeking. Many of you have shared your dreams with me and they are an inspiration!
Many of those dreams have common elements. We have seen a big move to live simply! Words like off-grid, solar, rural, eco-friendly, domes, yurts, earth ships, and even straw-bale houses come up regularly in our conversations. Many want a place to ride horses and grow some vegetables in peace and quiet. The rest of my conversations are split between those looking to invest in real estate and the rugged outdoorsmen looking for that perfect spot, close to their favorite hunting grounds or fishing hole!
The people, cultures, food, cowboys, history, hunters, fishermen, and wild animals I see as I explore these lands leave me smiling! Thank you for all of the compliments we have received, but most of all for your business! You have made it possible for us to celebrate our 10 Year Anniversary!

Joins Salvation Army's Adopt-a-Family Program

Once
again we adopted a local family through the Salvation Army's
Adopt-a-Family program, this year a young mother and her 2 year old daughter.
This continues to be our favorite event of the year. We had big smiles after
helping them out with Christmas gifts and a special meal. We are blessed
to be able to continue to help others in need.

For
those unfamiliar with the Adopt-a-Family program, it is part of the Angel
Tree program. You have probably seen the Angel Trees at grocery stores and in
the mall where you can pick a name and a wish off the tree and buy that item
for that child. In our own local community over 500 children are helped through
this program. However, the Adopt-a-Family program is for families in desperate
need of basics including food, household items, and clothing.

New Properties in Elko County, Nevada

In
October I attended a foreclosure sale in Elko
  County, Nevada and
am still smiling - what a fabulous trip! I own 20 acres there myself and I hope
to someday watch it snow on the Ruby
 Mountains. Any
opportunity to visit this area is always refreshing. The vibe of Elko
is unlike anywhere else I have ever been - cowboys, miners, and good
people! I attended a foreclosure sale there and I am thrilled at the properties we purchased! I hand picked acreage
including 10, 20, 40 and even an 80 acre piece about 20 minutes
northeast of the town of Elko.
These lots have fabulous views of the Ruby
Mountains and the North Fork of the Humboldt River -- with power not too far away! I
also purchased two properties that Jackstone Creek, an
early tributary to the Humboldt River, flows
through. There were tiny fish in it, which surprised me up that far! I am often
asked for land with water running through it and that's not easy in the desert!
I don't expect those to be around for long! These properties have
just been posted to our website!

20
Acres only 20 Miles northeast of Elko, Nevada. Hunters Paradise adjoining 1,280 acres
of BLM Land! Fabulous views of the Ruby Mountains and Humboldt River!

About
30 minutes outside of Elko, I saw a gentleman building what he called an ornamental
teepee - it sure is beautiful art, just south of Wells in Clover Valley!
I stopped by to say hello and he told me he had been building it for 30 days.
After the foreclosure sale and a fun lunch with Becky the County Treasurer
and some other investors, we set out to explore. As always, the next few days
were spent marveling at the Ruby Mountains, Pilot
 Mountains and all of the
wildlife there! We saw huge herds of antelope near Elko and more out by
Montello. We also saw a badger, which was the first time I have seen
one in Nevada!
The store out in Montello got a cute renovation since we were there last. We
also saw a cool hunting truck there reminding me that this is a great
valley for avid hunters.

When
we stopped in Elko one last time to fill up before leaving, I noticed a
quad with a big elk head on it. I quickly grabbed my camera, went
over and asked if it was permanently mounted on the quad. They said they had
just killed it the day before and had packed it out from the Wild Horse State
Recreation Area, about 65 miles north of Elko. I asked if I could take their
photo and use it on my website. That way it would be remembered forever in
history! They were such great sports! So, a big thanks to all the
friendly folks in Elko! You make my visits there so incredibly special!

Char the Explorer :)

Smile4u Land Sales - Buy Property Online For Great Prices!

10 Years of Smiles and Dreams!

Mark, Melanie, Char, Kristy, and Derek (left to right)

10 years ago Mark and I started
a dream to invest in land. Never did I imagine the adventures or the success we
would have! What started as a little land selling business on eBay has grown
into a small land company selling from our own website. I recently got a call
from a customer who bought their first piece of land from Smile4u on eBay 10
years ago and are now ready to buy another property!
To celebrate our 10 year
Anniversary here is our very first feedback from our eBay days:

We have definitely seen and
learned a lot in that time! Our business started before the land boom - we saw
things sky rocket and tumble back to where they are today. All the time we
continued to focus on what we do best - exploring the lands we sell and giving
our customers a better land buying experience at an affordable price! The herds
of wild horses, big horned sheep, oryx, badgers, elk, antelope and deer I get
to see... those are my bonuses!

wild horses, oryx, and antelope (left to right)

Often people tell me they have
been watching us for years, dreaming about owning their own piece of land, and
now have the means to make it happen! It's a huge accomplishment to make dreams
come true and smiles happen--one that makes my heart smile as well!

Your business has been and always will be greatly
appreciated! So as a sincere thank you to all of our customers... Please join in
celebrating with our 100 Day 10th Anniversary Sale!

I would definitely give us a thumbs-up for every year we've
been in business... So in celebration of our 10th
year we are having a

100 day celebration:
  10 thumbs up x 10 years = 100 days!

Every
day for 100 days we will have 5
properties with no document preparation fee. As one sells we will add another.

Welcoming Melanie to our Staff!

At the end of August we hired a new employee, Melanie, to
handle our marketing, advertising, and graphic design. Melanie graduated from Seattle Pacific
University in 2006 with a Bachelor of
Arts in Visual Communication and spent the next three and half years working as
a graphic designer for a technology consulting company in Seattle. In 2010, she and her husband Tate
moved up to Bellingham for a new job for Tate and to be closer to family. After a year of additional web design classes, Melanie and Smile4u crossed paths and joined
forces. She's a great addition to the team and is a wonderful person to have
around the office!

Smile4u owns land in Arizona,
California, Colorado,
Missouri, New Mexico,
Nevada, Oregon,
and Washington.
We may just have your dream property and at your dream price!

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Smile4u Land Sales - Buy Property Online For Great Prices!

Fall Greetings From

Char the Explorer standing on London Bridge above Lake Havasu
in Arizona

Discovering Lake Havasu

How in the world could I have missed Lake Havasu?
I am laughing at myself now that I have finally seen Lake Havasu
after driving around it every possible way for the past nine years. It is
stunning!

Lake Havasu
was formed in 1934 on the Colorado River by
the Parker Dam. And in 1971 the old London
Bridge that used to span the River
Thames in London, England was brought over and
reconstructed and it now links an island in the lake to the mainland. Lake Havasu City is about 300 miles
east of Los Angeles, CA
and 200 miles west of Phoenix, AZ.

I drove over the London
 Bridge for my first time
and from there we journeyed south down to the Parker Dam. Oh, what a beautiful
drive! For many miles the road snakes along the river and goes through plush
green valleys, over gorgeous rocks, through cute towns, past a few golf
courses, and always a stunning view of the river.

I purchased three 5 acre properties that sit in the hills
above the valley just northwest of Parker. It was a fun trip out to see them!
What a great place! Gotta love the sun! In the end, I got a dirt cheap room on
an off night, had plenty to do and see: lots of parks to play at for free, lots
of warm water to play in... life doesn't get any better than this!

Char the Explorer : )

Here are 2 of the fabulous properties I visited in the Lake Havasu

the property! Located about 1.5 hours southeast of Las
