Getting Spacious

Hi everyone,

Earlier this fall my husband Jay and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary by doing something we've never done.

We went on a European river trip from Amsterdam to Budapest.

Though I loved the gorgeous cities we stopped to visit along the way – many of them UNESCO World Heritage sites – my favorite part of the journey was when we got to stay on the boat. Nothing gave me more pleasure than to plunk myself in a chair on the top deck and do nothing but glide at a snail's pace and watch the world go by.

Life in the Slow Lane

It was pure heaven.

If you'd like to get a taste of what that felt like, keep scrolling to watch the one-minute video Jay made at dawn on the River Main in Germany.

There are other goodies below as well to fill you up as you dial it down.

Wishing you a EASEful holiday season.

Happy gliding, everyone!

The Spacious Zone

When people ask me what I mean by spaciousness, I tell them that it's not something that you do, or get, or make happen. It's more a feeling – a multi-sensory experience – that you cultivate, and shows up when you slow down...

Like the feeling of gliding through life without friction or resistance...

Or the magic that happens when you give life (and yourself) some space to reveal itself.

Gliding on the River Main

Like in this video where nothing seems to be happening...

and then something does.

Day of the Dead

Celebrating life, death, and everything in between

Or in this video I made on Day of the Dead in Mexico, where everything seems so solemn...

until it's not.

You never know what can happen when you're in the spacious zone, expecting nothing and being open to everything.

You might be met by an aha moment, an unexpected kindness, a creative solution, a knowing smile...

or church bells ringing...

reminding you that there is magic in the air, and shift really happens.

What is wanting to reveal itself to you? Can you slow down sometime today and find out?

The Thanksgiving Reader

"Let's all sit silently, and feel the magic in the room, the possibility of connection and the optimism we gain when we know we are in it together."

–Excerpt from "The Thanksgiving Reader," compiled by Seth Godin

Not that we need an excuse, but if there was one day in the year that honors our quiet and celebrates slowing down here in the US, it would have to be Thanksgiving.

Thought leader, Seth Godin, is offering a beautiful way for us to make the most of it too. He just released a free (downloadable pdf) book of contemplations called "The Thanksgiving Reader."

"The idea is simple," he writes in the introduction. "At your Thanksgiving celebration (and yes, it’s okay to use it outside the US), consider going around the table and having each person read a section aloud...

"Before the meal starts, all you need to do is put one page on each person's chair and follow the simple steps... After all the travel and the cooking and the hassle, for these few minutes, perhaps we can all breathe the same air and think hard about what we’re thankful for."

Decorated with gorgeous illustrations, the book offers 17 pages of inspiring contemplations, prayers, and responsive readings to choose from.
