Hi !
To all my friends in New York and north--how is that digging coming along? Believe it or not, I feel your pain. Last year, in February, we were stuck with two back to back storms that dumped nearly 50" on my little town--one that owns two or three plows (or so it seemed). But as you dig out, just remember that summer will be here soon enough. And if you can't wait that long, give me a call for some ideas for mid-winter getaways!
I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year! This year I was flying solo and the kids spent the evening with their mom, so it was a refreshing break to go out with some great friends and celebrate into the night--complete with the free taxi rides that were provided!
If you are considering joining us on one of our trips, please take a minute and read the updates below. There is some news you will need to know. And if you want to know how I got a Kindle for $1.21, you can find out as well.
Rocking Horse Ranch
We are off to the Rocking Horse Ranch once again. This time it is April 15-17 so we will have some great weather to celebrate filing taxes! We require a $200 refundable deposit to hold the space and the balance will be due towards the end of March. If you want to be assured a spot in the Main Lodge, we need to get you in the program sooner than later as the space we held is going quickly. If you aren't sure, check out our video recap from our November trip and see how much fun we have!
Sun And Fun Trips
We have a spring break trip planned to sunny Cancun in Mexico. This April trip is only 5 days and hopefully coincides with many spring breaks! Right now, we only have three families signed up and will need to release the unsold space fairly soon. So if you are looking for some beautiful beaches and some ancient history, please let me know.
Our Turks & Caicos trip for August just got a serious bump in interest and I expect this year's trip to be the largest one we have done at Turks. Right now, several categories of rooms are sold out at the resort--particularly in the Italian Village section. Again, if there is an interest, let's get a refundable $200 deposit down to hold your space. We can always cancel (if needed), change, upgrade, or downgrade later; but if there is no room at the inn--that's a bummer!
One Of A Kind Trips
Going, going, almost gone! Our Harry Potter trip is within 4 families of selling out. We will be joining another larger group in the UK as we explore the world of Harry Potter--not in Florida, but where it happened and where it all began! You can grab a cuppa coffee at the coffee shop where JK Rowling dreamed up the idea! With the Harry Potter franchise coming to a close, there is no better place to be than where it all began!
If you are interested in heading south of the Equator (and north), Brenda has put together a tremendous trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. This trip will feature a cruise as well as a land based vacation. The Galapagos are quickly becoming almost "too popular" and it is having a detrimental effect on the ecosystems. The archipelago is home to many unique and one of a kind animals including the Blue Footed Boobie. We have the details on the site, but if you need more, please feel free to contact Brenda directly!
Other News
2011 is a fresh year and with fresh years come resolutions. I have resolved to be more active in the Single Dad Blog on the site and to bring you some more insight into my world and the world of other single parents! Some will be funny, like the 11 Lessons For Parenthood Preparation. Others not so funny-- When Humor Goes Bad. I will talk about the yucky stuff, like teenage drinking and how you deal with it
. And I will share some great insight from other minds (much more cerebral than me) like one from Dan Pearce called Real Dads Don't Leave
. And when I find a bargain, I will share it, but only after gobbling it up myself. Which brings me to my $1.21 Kindle...
You can read about it on the site but in a nutshell, there is a new company called CityCents.com that takes the best of eBay and marries it with Groupon. You pay 70 cents each time you bid. But all bids start at a penny and rise by a penny. Gift cards for literally pennies, and yes, I got a brand new Kindle (latest version) for $1.21. On top of that I paid $21 for the bids (it took me 30 to win it) and $9.95 for shipping. But still $32.16 for a brand new Kindle. You have to love it! They are just starting and have some regional (to me) stuff but many national items as well. There is no cost to register and only costs you when you place bids. Neat concept and I say
get in it while it is still undiscovered
.
My technology demons still persist in getting our weekly travel deals newsletter going. I promise to make it a priority in the next 30 days. If you are interested in receiving a weekly email from us with travel deals that are particularly appropriate for single parents, you can click here to sign up by email or scroll to the bottom of our site and sign up on the form at the bottom. These are for individual (not group) travel, but have been vetted by us.
Within hours of you getting this newsletter, you will see some new social networking stuff on the site. It seems everyone is on Facebook and Twitter, so we will be adding some easy buttons to share our stuff with your friends. Please, if you like something, click share or re-tweet. It will help us grow and I will be eternally grateful! In case you did not know, you can like the Single Parent Travel Facebook page, you can follow Single Parent Travel on Twitter, and if you are really interested in my personal ruminations, you can become my friend
-but be warned, if you play Mafia Wars, Farmville or use those apps that constantly update me--I may hide you!
Well, that is it for now. As always, thanks for reading and thanks for traveling, and thanks for being a friend! Back to digging!
All the best,
John W. Frenaye, Jr
Chief Single Dad
