Single Parent Travel

...creating memories since 1993!

Hi !

OK, enough of this winter already!  Last year it was my year for snow and this yer it seems to be the year for my friends a bit north. I have seen some of the photos posted on Facebook and all I can say is "NO THANK YOU!"  Although it does remind me of what snows looked like when I was a kid!

Rocking Horse Ranch
Lots of people are signing up for our April 15-17 trip to the Rocking Horse Ranch. I am especially excited because we have never gone this late in the year and I am hoping (expecting) the weather to be spectacular. If you can join us, a fully refundable $200 deposit will hold the spot and guarantee you a room in the Main Lodge. The balance will be due at the end of March. You can make your deposit right online on our site or give me a call or shoot me an email and I can send you an e-invoice.  If you still need some convincing, and are curious about how much fun you missed out on in November, check out our video recap !

Sun And Fun Trips
With everyone freezing their butts off this winter, it seems everyone is thinking sunshine and beaches. Our Turks & Caicos trip is beginning to fill up. Most of the Italian Village suites are gone already and I do expect Beaches to sell out before the trip. There has been a minor change in the deposit requirements. Beaches has upped the deposit requirement to $400 (from $200). It is still refundable till the end of June, but from now on, they are requiring the larger deposit. If you are already under deposit for $200--you are good to go, no worries. But a $400 refundable deposit will guarantee the best choice of room category, so if you are getting the itch to sit on one of the world's most beautiful beaches, give me a shout and we can get you all hooked up!

UPDATE ON CANCUN: It is rare that we do this, but I have decided to cancel this trip entirely for a few reasons. First, there was not a tremendous response and we only had a few families signed up. But more importantly, I have grown somewhat concerned with the political situation in the country. While the violence is concentrated in the border towns, with a recent spate of violence in Puerto Vallarta, I needed to take a step back and re-evaluate. Tourists were not targeted and Puerto Vallarta is not near Cancun, but if the violence is reaching there, can it reach Cancun? Since we are single parents (by definition) and the majority are single moms, I needed to revert to my internal compass and ask myself if I was 100% confident in the destination to send my own mother there. And in all honesty, I could not say that!  I am keeping an eye on it and will revisit a trip there in the future.

One Of A Kind Trips
Outta here! Our Harry Potter trip is now officially sold out and the SPT families who are headed across the pond this summer are preparing for an outrageously great time. Our partner for this trip is Beyond Boundaries and they also have a Pirates of the Caribbean themed trip as well. With the new POTC coming out shortly, might there be an interest in one of those themed trips?  Read on and there is a link to a poll.

If you are interested in heading south of the Equator (and north--you can straddle it), Brenda has put together a tremendous trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. This trip will feature a cruise as well as a land based vacation. The Galapagos are quickly becoming almost "too popular" and it is having a detrimental effect on the ecosystems. The archipelago is home to many unique and one of a kind animals including the Blue Footed Boobie. We have the details on the site, but if you need more, please feel free to contact Brenda directly!Right now there are 6 families signed up and raring to go.  Are you next?

Blog News

My 2011 resolution was to be more active on the Single Dad Blog and I am happy to say I have been good--so far. Now if I can only nail down that whole weight loss resolution I will be golden.

Come on in and join the conversation and leave a comment. We discussed Amy Chua, the Chinese mother who ruled her home with an iron fist and a very sobering message on texting and distracted driving complete with an AT&T video--this is a must see video and one that needs to be shared with your kids--as uncomfortable as it may be!

I did some bragging on my youngest daughter who took the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics and took a dip into the 33 degree Chesapeake Bay late last month and raised nearly $700 for Special Olympics!  And be sure to check out perhaps one of the best photos I ever took of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge!

We had a guest blogger from Omaha offering some fantastic tips for things to do in Omaha with little guys.

And finally, I have a poll up asking about where you want us to go next (be nice). I get suggestions all the time and have included them here in the poll, but I really encourage you to leave a comment and let me know your other ideas!  As I was putting this newsletter together, I received a call from a Family Camp in Vermont--sounds "rustic" but very interesting--look for more info on that soon!

And finally, a few housekeeping reminders!  Please pass the word about Single Parent Travel along to your friends. If you are on Facebook or Twitter, we have installed "share" and "Tweet" icons on all pages of our site to make it easy to share something you like.

These small actions will help us grow and I will be eternally grateful! In case you did not know, you can like the Single Parent Travel Facebook page, you can follow Single Parent Travel on Twitter, and if you are really brave and interested in my personal ruminations, you can become my friend-but be warned, I have been known to have what others have deemed a "sick" sense of humor and if you play Mafia Wars, Farmville or use those apps that constantly update me--I may hide you or worse!

Well, that is it for now. As always, thanks for reading and thanks for traveling, and thanks for being a friend! Think Spring!

All the best,

John W. Frenaye, Jr
Chief Single Dad
