Hardwood treads vs Laminates
Sent Tuesday, October 18, 2011
Hi Folks
One of the most dramatic options for any staircase is full
treads and risers. The big debate for most homeowners is what type
of material to use. The cost of using laminate flooring makes it
seem attractive, but the durability (or lack there of) makes this a
poor solution. It is definitely short term. it generally will last
a few years before it falls to pieces. The appearance also is
usually
fairly mediocre. laminates are not designed for stairs and the
pieces and parts are the manufacturers afterthought. Solid hardwood
treads are the way to go. They are durable and can be refinished
for decades. The will set your staircase apart from the floor and
make it a showpiece. I think the only time one may want to consider
laminates is if your trying to sell your house. But you may want to
consider the ethics of such trickery.
