Published: Sun, 01/31/21

Hi again:

We've just about come to the end of this mini-course on strengthening your immune system. The good news is you can do it every day through just a few simple and smart choices.

Ultimately, everyone gets sick at some point and at some time. Have you ever noticed that you pick up a cold when you finally stop to take a rest after going non-stop?

Your body becomes so stressed that the moment you relax the cold or flu gets you. The best you can do is take the time necessary to recharge. In the meantime, you can make lifestyle changes and improve your diet to boost your immunity.

If you're stressed, your immune system is not that efficient, so learn coping strategies to help you deal with your specific stressors.

Harvard Medical School offers a variety of immunity-boosting solutions. In addition to vitamins C and D, vitamins such as B6 and E are also excellent immunity boosters. Vitamin B6 supports your immune system's biochemical reactions. It's easy to find in chickpeas (which means hummus), green vegetables, chicken, salmon, and tuna.

Vitamin E, meanwhile, is an antioxidant that helps your body fight infections. You can get plenty of vitamin E in spinach, seeds, and nuts.

Finally, some helpful hints to boost your immunity immediately. If you're a smoker, it's time to stop. If you drink alcohol, ensure that you do so in moderation and give your body a break at least twice a week.

Exercise, eat fruits and vegetables, look after your hygiene, drink plenty of water, maintain a healthy weight, and get plenty of sleep.
