Dear Friends of the Twin City Model Railroad Museum,
All small businesses and non-profits are struggling to see their way forward in the midst of this worldwide pandemic. A recent statement by the American Association for State and Local History pointed out that “Museums contribute more than $50 Billion to the economy each year, but many face devastating consequence due to COVID-19 closures.”
In spite of our 85-year history, we are extremely vulnerable to business failure. In a few short weeks we have gone from steady attendance to a total shutdown of our daily operations. Normally, 88% of our annual revenue comes from daily attendance and special events admissions. We are grateful for the 12% provided by our membership and loyal Donor Base, a resource that we need to
rely on more heavily during this critical period. Each month, half of our total expenses go to lease rent payments, utilities and other facilities expenses. With the exception of some limited professional services, we are a 100% volunteer-run organization.
Our landlord has agreed to a short term, 50% deferral in current lease obligation. This is where we need your help! A few members have contributed matching funds to help us meet this remaining $5,000 per month commitment and your donation will be used to match those funds. You helped us build out our new museum space and we are confident that, together, we can get thru this!
Help us reach our goals by making a donation at Givemn.com/tcmrm if you can between May 1st & May 8th. Bonus donations will be awarded hourly that can help us reach our fundraising goals even faster!
Be safe, keep healthy and keep in touch via our website as we create more virtual tours in the weeks ahead.
Yours,
Oscar Lund, President, TCMRM
