   Answer below.

Congrats to GM Fabiano Caruana and IM Nazi Paikidze, winners of the 2016 US Chess Championship and US Women's Championship!

A correction from the "Snow Knows" newsletter I sent on Sunday (you can read it here, if you missed it http://archive.aweber.com/tacticstime/BqBBG/h/Tactics_Time_Chess_Newsletter_.htm ) :

One of the lines I gave was wrong.

It was the line where Black plays 25...Rxe5

I said that the Bishop was pinned because of the back rank mate, but it isn't, because of moves like Be7 or Bf8.

   Sorry about that!

The best line actually looks more like this

   25... Rxe5 26. fxe5 Be7 protecting against the back rank mate

   27. Rd7 attacking the bishop and c-pawn 27...Kf8 protecting the bishop

   28. Rxc7 winning pawn #1 (The computer likes 28. Ba7 even better, preventing 28...Rb8 with the idea of 29.Rxc7 and 30. Rc8+)

   28...Rb8 29. Ra7 Rc8 30. Rxa6 winning pawn #2

Where White has 2 extra pawns.  In the 28. Ba7 line White has even more compensation, but that line is not as easy for humans to see as it is for a computer.

I heard from A LOT of people, so apologies for not sending back personal replies to everyone :)

One of the nice things about when I make a mistake is that I get a ton of feedback letting me know that lots of people are reading the newsletters, and really working through the solutions!

So thank you!  I appreciate that!

   Answer:

   53. Rg5!! keeps the black bishop from going to d5 where it can stop the passed pawn, and keeps the Black King away from the passed pawn.

If 53...Kxg5 54. f7 and the pawn cannot be stopped.

   Happy Tactics!
