   The World Open is held every year over 4th of July weekend, and attracts a large number of players from around the world.

   The tournament is 9 rounds long with different schedules available (play all of your games over 5 days, 4 days, 3 days, etc).

   There are also a lot of various side events, such as blitz tournaments and lectures by Grandmasters.

   I played in the World Open once, with my friend Pete Short, and it is a grueling tournament.  

   This year several of my friends played in the World Open including Brad Lundstrom, Chris Peterson, Alex Fishbein and Gunnar Andersen.  

   Gunnar did especially well, bringing home $2250 in prizes!  Congrats Gunnar!
