   Answer below.

I got A LOT of feedback about the "Crazy Mate in One" newsletter that I sent out the other day.  In case you missed it, you can read it here:  http://archive.aweber.com/tacticstime/CbASW/h/Tactics_Time_Chess_Newsletter_.htm

I tried to be comprehensive in my answer, but I missed one answer that I got a million questions about, which was "Why doesn't d8=Q#" work.

The answer is that this is an illegal move :)  D'oh!  That pawn is pinned by the Bishop to the King.

So I hope no one felt bad about that position if they got it wrong.  It is very unusual, and normally I stay away from "composed problems", but I enjoyed that one a lot.  Several people told me that they were going to share it with their students, which I think would be fun.

   In other news...

This past weekend was the first "Ironman" tournament in Colorado.  You might recall I wrote a newsletter entitled "The Iron Throne" about this tournament back in February, which you can read here: http://archive.aweber.com/tacticstime/FlIvC/h/Tactics_Time_Chess_Newsletter_.htm

Chris Peterson wrote a nice report about the tournament, which you can read here: https://coloradochessironman.com/2016/05/15/day-one-complete/

I had a really good time at the first Iron Man event, and am looking forward to the next one in June!
