Congratulations to Grandmasters Gata Kamsky and Maurice Ashley on being inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame!

I have met both players, and both are class acts, and I am very happy for them both!

Paul Anderson wrote a hilarious email newsletter, where he posted a picture of himself (as club officer) awarding himself the plaque as winner of the 22nd annual City Speed Championship.  Great stuff Paul, and congrats!

Captain Caveman

I'm playing in a "thematic" tournament on chess.com featuring the "Caveman Caro Kann".  It is being organized by Joel Johnson.

I had never heard of the Caveman, but I love the name!  One user on chess.com wrote "The Caveman Caro-Kann (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5 4.h4) is a great offbeat way to spice up what could be a boring game following 1.e4 c6."

Loveland Open

I am going to be playing in Randy Reynold's Loveland Open next weekend.  My "wing man" Francisco Baltier is coming in from Tucson for a long weekend.  We are going to go skiing on Thursday and Friday at Copper Mountain, then play chess Saturday and Sunday!  Should be fun!  (Logo by Fred Spell)
