Career Tip: Change or Stagnate! -- Take a Personal SWOT Analysis and Grow Your Career Sent Tuesday, July 12, 2011 View as plaintext
Hi ,

For decades, SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, O pportunities, and T hreats) analysis has been a simple yet powerful B-school model MBA students use to analyze the strategic positions of companies, products or business situations. By assessing a business entity's S trengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and T hreats, SWOT analysis serves to maximize a business' chance for success. You don't need to be an MBA to apply the SWOT technique to your own career planning.

If you want a fresh way to size up the state of your career you can take a page from the business-school playbook and run a SWOT analysis on your career. The SWOT analysis will help you identify intrinsic qualities (strengths and weaknesses) that may help or hinder you and your career, as well as external issues (opportunities and threats) that may work for or against you as you attempt to take your career to the next level.

Conducting a Self-SWOT analysis with regularity is, in my opinion, the single most effective 'power tool' you can use to optimize career and keep moving you towards your goal.  Once complete, the results will you identify, hone and leverage marketable, unique and beneficial qualities in your career, and minimize obstacles that must be overcome to achieve goals relative to your career.

You have to start your SWOT analysis with a goal. Then examine your current situation. What are your personal strengths and weaknesses? How can you capitalize on your strengths and overcome your weaknesses? What are the external opportunities and threats in the entertainment industry that could cause you trouble?

Whether you're an actor, writer, director, producer, you can apply a SWOT analysis to your career.  You can also apply it to projects you're working on.  I regularly use it as a tool to help my filmmaker clients analyze their film projects and the results are amazing!

Tomorrow I will be releasing a Self-SWOT Analysis program to help with your career growth.  It will give you a clue about which direction your career is moving and help you decide what you will have to do to get your career on right track.

Stay tuned ...
