Issue LVII                                                            Brought to you by: Tao of Color.com

Editors Note: This is an abbreviated version of The Tao Colorist Newsletter since we're deep into recording, editing, and creating the website portion of our impending Color Grading MasterClass for DaVinci Resolve Lite.

Editor's Note 2: Next week's edition will be a 'Best of' featuring the most-read articles from the first 6 months of this year.

Editor's Note 3: Starting this Friday - and for the next 5 days - your humble newsletter editor will be assisting International Colorist Association's Warren Eagles in his full-day in-person DaVinci training sessions at Manhattan Edit Workshop. Therefore I won't be able to create next week's edition. By the way - there are only 3 spots available for the 3-day Resolve 101 and 2-day Resolve 201 sessions (tip: sign-up for both sessions and get a discount).

Editor's Note 4: I'll be off the August 6-7 weekend (and thus no Newsletter at all) - after promising my wife to help her spend her birthday weekend with no internet, no email, and no writing a Newsletter! Yup. It's summer here in NYC. I guess this is what the Newsletter summer schedule looks like. ;-)

Free (As In Beer)

  • DaVinci Resolve Lite Now Available for Download - Yup. It's here. The free version of DaVinci Resolve. Download it from the BlackMagic website. (BlackMagic-Design.com)
  • DaVinci Resolve Lite: A Quick Overview - Plus minimum hardware specs for running it on the MacBookPro and iMac. (TaoOfColor.com)
  • DaVinci Resolve: Now Supporting Mouse-Based Color Grading - Lost in some of the news around the release of Resolve Lite... DaVinci introduced (for both Resolve and Resolve Lite) a brand new 3-Way Color Correction interface designed specifically for mouse-based desktop colorists. They also refined mouse input controls and introduced a slew of keyboard commands to optimize grading using the 3-Way controls. All of this in a .0.1 update. (TaoOfColor.com)
  • Compare the Features of Resolve 8 - A chart showing the feature mix between the Linux, Mac, and Lite versions of Resolve 8. As well as the new features in version 8. Be warned, the feature list is ridiculously long! (BlackMagic-Design.com)
  • 15 Free FCPx Color Grading Tutorials - Color Grading Central has a 15-part tutorial on color grading in FCPx. They also offer paid download versions of this series. (theDigitalVisual.com)

Sunday Morning Fun(nies)

  • Dr. Who Episodes Now Available on Facebook - I'm unclear if these are the chopped up and disjointed BBC America abominations (which is what's sold in the U.S. iTunes store) or the full-length originals. (mashable.com)
  • Peter Jackson's Third 'Hobbit' Production Video - Stay up to date on the latest Hobbit Production news with this video. I'll have to watch these to see if he plans on chopping out the last chapter of this book too! (Facebook.com)
  • Apple Stores: Completely Ripped Off in China - These are complete replicas of Apple's iconic retail stores. No word if the hardware being sold is authentic. (BirdAbroad.wordpress.com via @ShawnKing)
