Thanks to all who came out to have a delicious teriyaki dinner in order to support our students, and a big thank
you to owners Adriana and Keith Edell for hosting. Please stay tuned for next month’s Dining Day details and information on our website and social media pages.
Famous! D4TS Featured in Boca Raton Observer |
Dollars 4 Tic Scholars is proud to share that we were featured in the August 2017 issue of The Boca Raton Observer. The article, located in the Giving Back section of The Observer, focuses on how we got started with our mission to fulfill
the need of funding college scholarships for students with Tourette Syndrome, and about our sponsorship of children to attend Tourette Syndrome summer camp. Two of our latest fundraising efforts were mentioned, the D4TS Derby Day in February 2017 and our Third Annual "Gal’s Afternoon Out" Summer Camp Paint Party in June 2017. We hope that this article helps D4TS to continue to reach out and raise awareness for Tourette Syndrome and the importance of supporting college education for these
students all around the country. A new research technique creating brain cells made from blood cells could help determine what causes Tourette Syndrome. Scientists at Rutgers University used a genetic engineering technique for the first time, using blood cells from three
generations of the same family, some having Tourette's and some that didn’t, which were then converted into brain nerve cells. According to an author of the study, the technique could allow for a better understanding of what sorts of genes cause this disease. Also, these cells could be used to screen drugs that might be effective for treatment. Source: http://www.futurity.org/brain-cells-blood-cells-tourettes-1554232/
Supporter Spotlight - Innovating Worthy Projects |
We thank our sponsor, the Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation, for awarding Dollars 4 Tic Scholars with a recent grant. Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation was conceived in 1987 to provide financial help to quality special-needs children’s programs. Their mission parallels ours to make a great match!
We appreciate IWPF for their support in helping us send children that have Tourette Syndrome to Camp Twitch and Shout summer camp. |
