"We build too many walls and not enough bridges."
~ Isaac Newton?
While this quote is generally credited to
philosopher-scientist Isaac Newton, I've just learned that the correct source is probably Joseph Force Newton, a preacher.
Preacher Newton wrote about people feeling frustrated and unfulfilled because, due to fear, they are "erecting walls around themselves instead of building bridges into the lives of others."
Whoever is responsible for the quote, what is your response? How does this thought touch you? Stir
you?
I suggest we look for ways to span the gulfs between us. In every encounter with another human being, we can construct and strengthen bonds.
We can use warm smiles, direct eye contact, handshakes and hugs. We can give our full attention to someone speaking. We can listen to understand.
Let's be bridge builders.
With
love and compassion,
Charlene
