“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.”
~ Henri J. M. Nouwen
Happy summer! I meant to say this yesterday. When I realized it was summer's first day, I wondered: What season of the year do most people prefer? I was surprised to find claims for three of the four seasons. It seems that few people like winter best. But all four have joy-stirring aspects.
Over the next few days, we'll feature some
other "things" that can help us to experience joy. But for today, choose to give attention to the changes in weather and to beautiful expressions of life in nature.
Let the joy within you be touched, nudged, delighted, or roused by sunlight or the smell of fresh-cut grass or your favorite summer meal or lilacs or...you get the idea. Choose joy with intention and by savoring something with gratitude. Choose also to be an expression of joy in the
world.
With beauty and courage,
Charlene
