“The easiest thing to be in the world is you. The most difficult thing to be is what other people want you to be. Don't let them put you in that position.” ~ Leo Buscaglia
I love Leo Buscaglia's philosophy, perspective, and quotes; but I don't necessarily agree that the easiest thing in the world is to be ourselves.
Sometimes it takes courage to stand tall, for example.
It was for me when I was the tallest child in my 5th grade classroom. I remember slouching to appear shorter. Funny thing: I reached my full height of 5'2" not long after that. By 8th grade, I was among the shortest. Then I wanted to grow more and again be among the tallest.
It takes courage to stand tall and speak our truth when we see things differently than the majority, or our family, or our peers.
It takes courage to be ourselves in many situations. But once we realize that we have courage as well as strength and beauty and value, it becomes easier. In fact, it becomes exciting and joyful.
I do agree that it is difficult, unwise, and unhealthy to be what others want us to be. So let's not hide any aspects of who we are. Let's stop trying to blend in and not be noticed.
Be the awesome beauty that you are!
With courage,
Charlene
