TODAY'S TOUCHSTONE

"Be curious, not judgmental."
                        ~ Walt Whitman

What if....every time we are triggered today, instead of taking our reaction straight to judging the situation, the person, or the comment that stirred upset...what if we pause and call upon our gift of curiosity?

A few months ago I wrote about how marriage therapist Kathryn Hendricks recommends pausing and saying Hmm whenever we are ready to react to something our spouse (or anyone) says that disturbs us.

"Let me think about that" seems to be contained in the sound of Hmm; saying it holds many other potential benefits.

For example, Hmm can remind us to be curious instead of judgmental.

"Curiosity is natural to the soul of man," said Daniel Boone. Hmm. That's like saying it's one of our inherent gifts, it seems to me.

Hmm. I wonder how well this will work for us today.

Hmm. I wonder if you'll try it.

Hmm.

Grateful, curious, and hopeful,

Charlene
