"I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the
greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances."
~ Martha Washington
This wise attitude about attitude has been said in so many ways by poets, prophets, philosophers, psychologists, politicians - people in all walks of life - for centuries.
I appreciated coming across this expression of it from Martha Washington, which she wrote in a letter to a friend. Despite the death of her first husband, the death of a teenage child, her second husband
engaged in a war, and who knows what other private sufferings, Martha proclaims a determination to live well each day, with gratitude and joy.
Whatever this day brings, may we choose, like Martha, to live it with good cheer, with gratitude for life itself.
Choosing love too,
Charlene
