"If you would know strength and patience, welcome the company of trees." ~Hal Borland
Every day that I walked to and from St. Elizabeth's Elementary School, I passed a tree that gave me chills. I called it "The Grandfather Tree." It was a tall, gnarled-but-stately type of pine, the only one of its kind in my neighborhood.
That Grandfather Tree seemed not only strong to me but wise and understanding. I always felt something special when I was near it.
Here in the botanical garden at Sanibel Moorings, I feel many positive things when I walk among the trees.
The Apple Blossom Casia exudes beauty and joy. When I'm near it, beauty and joy are stirred in me.
The Shaving Brush Tree makes me feel like dancing.
The Traveler Palm stirs awe and appreciation for time.
It is wise to spend time in the company of trees.
It is also wise to cultivate friendships and spend time in the company of people who demonstrate life's highest gifts, including reverence for trees, all human beings, all life, and all that is.
With love,
Charlene
