"Listening is such a simple act. It requires us to be present, and that takes practice, but we don't have to do anything else. We don't have to advise, or coach, or sound wise. We just have to be willing to sit there and listen."
~ Margaret J. Wheatley
I'm still working on this skill. It wasn't until a few years ago that I learned that:
"There is a difference between listening and waiting for your turn to speak."
~ Simon Sinek
Toward building harmony and peace among us -in our families
and communities, in our workplaces, in our country and in our world - it's time for us all to become adept at listening to understand one another instead of always trying to convince others that we are right.
Something powerful happens when we listen this way, especially in the moments when understanding happens in our hearts as well as our heads, when we feel for and with one another. The beauty within us stirs, connects, and
ripples into echoing waves that flow through us and outward into the world.
Let's aim for such experiences of resounding beauty today. In all conversations, when listening, may we shift away from forming how we're going to respond when the other person stops speaking to truly listening to him, to her.
With love and compassion,
Charlene
