"Every time something bad happens to me, I don't ask the question, 'Why did it happen to me?' The question I ask is, 'Why did it happen for me?' " ~ Elijah Cummings
A powerful shift happens when "to me" becomes "for me" and when we trust God and the goodness of life.
I plan to remember this quote and to aspire to follow the example of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings, a man of great integrity, a real moral leader. He passed away yesterday.
While listening to my car radio yesterday, I heard another Cummings quote I plan to embrace. I don't have the exact words. But the essence was:
We must stand together with one another, with people we don't agree with, with people who look different than us. We must focus on what we have in common and not let differences divide us.
Amen,
Charlene
