"It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want — oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!" ~Mark Twain
What changes are you noticing today at your location in the world? Is March 21 the second day of spring or autumn for you?
When I was growing up in New Jersey, every year I had a serious case of spring fever. It was wonderful as well as unsettling. As Mark Twain put it, my heart yearned and ached for something I could not name. At the same time it leaped joyfully with the sight of yellow blooms along forsythia branches; the feel of the warming wind; and the earthy smell of thawed soil.
Living in Florida now, I'm not experiencing seasonal changes as poignantly as I did when I lived in the northeast.
However, I'm much more sensitive to other kinds of changes and shifts on our planet. I imagine you are too.
Do you believe, as I do, that we can influence what we're shifting toward?
Even as we mourn, grieve, and shake our heads in disbelief at the rise of hate, we yearn for healthy things to happen. Like spring fever, we may or may not be able to name
what we want. Among our longings, I think we yearn for respect and love to circle the Earth.
We can do more than yearn. We can each spread respect
and love as we seed and sow kindness wherever we are and everywhere we go.
Instead of fighting the hate, we can overcome it.
With compassion, reverence, and hope,
Charlene
