"In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson." ~ Tom Bodett
Hmm. Before yesterday, I hadn't heard it put this way. Have you?
My friend, Joanie, wrote to me about yesterday's quote from Elijah Cummings, which was: "Every time something bad happens to me, I don't ask the question, 'Why did it happen to me?' The question I ask is, 'Why did it happen for me?' "
That reminded Joanie...as she put it: "In school, we get the lesson first and then the test, but in life that is not the case - we often get the test first and then, hopefully, the lesson."
We all have a lot to learn. And learning is a good thing, a great thing. So the next time something challenging, confusing, or uncomfortable happens, instead of labeling it as "bad," let's be curious and wisely welcome the lesson.
With gratitude,
Charlene
