We Are Out to Save the World
uploaded from ISKCON Austin,

We are out to
save the world. This our mission. We find it
intolerable that practically the entire
present human population is descending to
the animal kingdom in their next births.
Therefore we are bending over backwards
trying to find the various ways and means to
bring the entire human civilization to the
platform of Krishna consciousness. The
ultimate program of all is the mass
distribution of transcendental literature,
especially the most sacred and realized
writings of His Divine Grace A.C.
Bhaktivedanta Tridandi Goswami Maharaja
Prabhupada.

Question: Illicit Sex for Householders is Acceptable? |
|
I have
heard one of ISKCON's preachers say that while
householders not having illicit sex is ideal, it is
acceptable for them to have illicit sex. Is this
true?
Your student
|
|
Answer: Absolutely Not! Sex is for Procreation, Not
for Recreation
|
|
Such an idea will of course very popular
in this Kali-yuga. But how can anything illicit be
acceptable? Unless we are completely pure it is not
possible to go back to Godhead. Such an idea is
absolutely ludicrous. It's insane. If anyone is
preaching that, they should not be allowed to preach.
The only devotees who should be allowed to preach are
those who present Srila Prabhupada's teaching as they
are without any deviation. Everyone needs to carefully
read and understand Srila Prabhupada's teachings before
they start preaching. Here's what the Srimad Bhagavatam
and Srila Prabhupada have to say about this:
etat sarvaṁ gṛhasthasya
samāmnātaṁ yater api
guru-vṛttir vikalpena
gṛhasthasyartu-gāminaḥ
“All the rules and regulations apply equally to the
householder and the sannyasi, the member of the
renounced order of life. The grihastha, however, is
given permission by the spiritual master to indulge in
sex during the period favorable for procreation.”
--Srimad
Bhagavatam 7.12.11
(From
the Srila Prabhupada's purport to this verse):
"It is sometimes misunderstood that a
grihastha, a householder, is permitted to indulge in sex
at any time. This is a wrong conception of grihastha
life. In spiritual life, whether one is a grihastha,
vanaprastha, sannyasi or brahmacari, everyone is under
the control of the spiritual master. For brahmacaris and
sannyasīs there are strong restrictions on sexual
indulgence. Similarly, there are strong restrictions for
grihasthas. Grihasthas should indulge in sex life only
in accordance with the order of the guru. Therefore it
is mentioned here that one must follow the orders of the
spiritual master (guru-vṛttir
vikalpena).
When the spiritual master orders, the grihastha may
accept sex life. This is confirmed in Bhagavad-gītā
(7.11).
Dharmāviruddho bhūteṣu kāmo 'smi:
indulgence in sex life without disobedience to the
religious rules and regulations constitutes a religious
principle. The grihastha is allowed to indulge in sex
life during the period favorable for procreation and in
accordance with the spiritual master's order. If the
spiritual master's orders allow a grihastha to engage in
sex life at a particular time, then the grihastha may do
so; otherwise, if the spiritual master orders against
it, the grihastha should abstain."
Kindly note that in this connection for their spiritual
benefit Srila Prabhupada has authorized his married
disciples to have sex only once a month after the
husband and wife both chant at least fifty rounds of
japa when they are trying for a child. Otherwise they
must strictly remain celibate. For more information in
this connection, kindly the read the article "Spiritual
Perfection in Household Life" which is posted at:
