,

We have an important announcement to make:

The 2011 Utah Tour de Donut Cycling Course has been adjusted to avoid a water hazard at the South West Corner of the Route.

If you are participating in this year's event, you may want to visit: http://utahtourdedonut.org/event-details/course-map/and view the modifications.

If you have not yet registered, registration will remain open until 5:00 PM Friday Evening. We will then close on-line registration so we can get the chips programed, put the SWAG Bags together, match up the shirts with the registrants, and get things ready for Saturday Morning Check in - which begins at 7:30 AM.

We will have day of Registration on July 16th from 7:30 AM until about 8:30 AM and the race will begin promptly at 9:00 AM.

Unlike last year, our Start and Finish line will be one in the same. This will enable us to better utilize the chip timing equipment for greater accuracy and efficiency.

If you have not yet registered and would still like to participate, visit http://www.utahtourdedonut.org and find the registration link. We still need Volunteers and you will receive a 2011 Utah Tour de Donut STAFF Shirt and can eat a couple of donuts if there are any left over after the riders get through with them!

We are looking forward to another great year! Don't forget to wear your cycling helmets and any other safety equipment!

Thank you,

Happy 4th of July Weekend!

We have some exciting news regarding the 2011 Utah Tour de Donut.

1. Eldon Fatty Nelson from http://www.fatcyclist.com will be our Title Sponsor for this year's event. Fatty has been a great support of our event for the past couple of years and missed a podium finish by 1 donut last year. You bet he will be targeting that podium finish. Visit his website at http://www.fatcyclist.com to find out more about Fatty and why he is passionate about cycling and events like ours!

2. Registrations received by July 4, 2011 will be guaranteed a Tech Shirt. These are the same shirts that we showcased at last years event. They are made of a moisture wicking material and are much improved over the cotton t-shirts that we have had in the past. In order to get the shirts here in time for the 2011 Utah Tour de Donut on July 16, we need to place the order on Tuesday July 5th! So, visit http://www.utahtourdedonut.org and get registered in order to guarantee a shirt. Remember, we will not be reordering shirts like we have in years past. One order is all that will be placed.

3. We are finalizing the details and work flow with Race Day Timing - who will be providing chip timing at this years event. This will help with the accuracy of the timing as well as speed up the integration of the donut counts for those riders who eat donuts. Thus, we can get to the presentation of the awards sooner than we have in years past. Realize that we are new to the Chip Timing arena and Race Day Timing is willing to help us figure out what we need to do in order to get the donut counts integrated in a timely manner.

4. We will have a Finish Line set up that will span across the road where the finish will be. This will have banners representing our different sponsors and there will be opportunities to take pictures under the finish line. This is being provided by Race Day Timing as well. As we figure out what we can do to provide a better experience for our participants and sponsors, we will implement various ideas until we find out what works well for our event and what does not.

5. We are in the process of gathering Raffle Prizes. If you have items you want to donate to be given away, let us know so that we can work out the details.

We appreciate your support as we make changes from year to year. Be patient with us as we are a Service Club trying to raise funds for various causes, we are not a professional crew putting on the event. If you have recommendations and suggestions on how we can improve this event from year to year, please let us know. No ideas are turned away, everything is considered in trying to make this an event that we can be proud of and riders will continue to support year after year.

We are in great need of Volunteers!!! If you have volunteered in the past - or would like to volunteer this year, or know people who would like to volunteer, please have them go to http://www.utahtourdedonut.org and register as a Volunteer. If they can do this before July 5, 2011, they will be given a 2011 Volunteer Tech Shirt as a thank you!

Have a great 4th of July Weekend!

Consider Registering as a TEAM for the 2011 Utah Tour de Donut

,

This year, the Utah Tour de Donut has added a TEAM category.

Why did we do this? you might ask. . . This e-mail will try to go into some details behind why we did and how to register as a TEAM.

In past years, we received several questions as to why we did not allow groups to participate as a TEAM. After strong consideration, the Utah Tour de Donut Committee decided this was the year!

Why now? We felt the event was at the level that would support TEAM competition and that there was enough support for the TEAM aspect.

What are the Qualifications for a TEAM?

Teams are restricted to 5 riders per team. Team participants will want to somehow identify themselves as Team Members and will participate for Individual Prizes as well as TEAM prizes. Currently, we do not plan on distinguishing between Male/Female/or Co-ED Teams. This may happen in the future as we review the TEAMS that participate and break down the Teams that fit various gender/ age categories.

The TEAM will participate as Individuals and their Individual Results will be Categorized and Quantified in order to determine the Podium Places for the Top 3 Teams. While we are still figuring out the details (Total Donuts vs. Average Donuts Eaten; Time last Team Member Crosses the Finish Line vs. Total Time for All Team Members to Cross the Finish Line vs. Average Time for All Team Members to Cross the Finish Line; etc.) We are confident that the TEAM Category will provide a different level of excitement to this year's event.

We are Strongly Encouraging the TEAMS to come up with a plan and ways to RAISE Funds outside of the Actual 2011 Utah Tour de Donut. You can do Bake Sales, Make Crafts and sell them, get pledges for miles ridden or donuts eaten, etc. The TEAM that raises the most Funds outside of the event will be given a prize! While this is not required in order for the Team to participate, it adds another layer of competition that we hope will end up raising additional funds for The Huntsman Cancer Institute at The American Fork Hospital, Kona Biketown Africa, and The Rotary Club of American Fork.

We also encourage TEAMS to do something that will identify them as being from the same team. This can be as simple as TEAM Shirts or decorating bicycles with similar decorations. There will be prizes for Teams who have the Most Team Spirit or Unity! So, get your creative juices flowing.

So, Now that you are thinking about the TEAM aspect of this year's event, how do you register for as a TEAM?

First, you will need to gather information on each Team Member - Name, Male/Female, which Category they will be riding in.

Second, you will need to collect funds to cover the cost of the TEAM Registration. It is $40/Team Member or $200 Total. You need to register and pay for all TEAM Members at one time.

Third, you will want to visit Utah Tour De Donut.org - Official Site locate the Register Now button and then register.

The steps for Registering are the same regardless of which classification (individual, youth, tandem, family, team) your are registering for. Just make sure you know who your TEAM members are and have the funds available to make payment at the time of registration.

If you have any questions, let us know by responding to this e-mail.

Thank you for your continued support.

There is some confusion as to the Registration Fees for the 2011 Utah Tour de Donut.

We hope to have the Registration Fees posted to the website in the next 24 - 48 hours.

There is Early Bird Pricing in Effect for the next several months. I will share both Early Bird Prices and Non Early Bird Prices for those who want to delay registration until the Early Bird Pricing is gone!

Individual Registration: $40 w/Early Bird Pricing, $50 without Early Bird Pricing

Tandem Registration: $60 w/Early Bird Pricing, $70 without Early Bird Pricing

Youth Registration (Age 13 and Younger): $25 w/Early Bird Pricing, $30 without Early Bird Pricing

Team Registration (5 members to a team) - $200 - No Early Bird Pricing. Price already reflects a $10/team member discount)

Family Registration: A combination of Individual and Youth Registration Fees depending on the Age of the Participants. Registration Fees include the Early Bird Discount.
All registrations are for the full event. At this time, we are not having an Open Division where you ride the partial event. It is too difficult, logistically, to account for those who only plan to do the partial event.

Remember, this is a Fund Raiser with funds going towards The Huntsman Cancer Institute Branch at the American Fork Hospital, Kona Biketown Africa, and local projects of the Rotary Club of American Fork.

We have increased our registration fees this year and made adjustments where we were not profitable in past events. We have brought some efficiencies by utilizing chip timing which will aid in posting the final results as well as speeding up the presentation of awards.

Each year we look to make improvements in the event to make it not only a fun and memorable event, but one that will raise more funds for the causes we are supporting. Unfortunately, some of the changes that we have implemented might discourage participation from some of our past participants. We are sorry if you fall into this category.

We will be accepting late registrations, but because of the logistics of trying to re-order shirts and get them to the late participants, these late registrations will not include a 2011 Utah Tour de Donut Shirt.

We are also in the process of designing a 2011 Utah Tour de Donut Cycling Jersey for those that are interested in purchasing one. As soon as the design is finalized, it will be posted on the Website. You can already purchase them through our registration site- but until you see them, you will probably want to hold off.

We hope that you will join us for our 4th Utah Tour de Donut. We plan on having some additional stops that involve things other than Eating Donuts along the 7 mile route! More details will be coming!

As always, if you have questions or concerns, direct them to info@utahtourdedonut.org

Thank you,

Well, the time you have been anxiously awaiting has finally arrived! The Official Website: Utah Tour de Donut has been updated and registration for the Event on July 16, 2011 is under way!

If you have a Facebook Account, look to follow us at the Utah Tour de Donut Facebook Page or on Twitter at @UtahTourdeDonut.

There is still plenty to do at the Official Website, and a little bit to do on the Registration site. If you have issues, contact us at info@utahtourdedonut.org with what is going on and we will try to resolve the issues as soon as possible.

There are opportunities to register as a participant, volunteer, or spectator - cheering on the participants as they ride and raise funds for some great causes. The 2011 Utah Tour de Donut will support: Kona Biketown Africa, Huntsman Cancer Institute - American Fork Hospital Branch, and projects supported by the Rotary Club of American Fork, Utah.

In order to register, you will need to visit the Official Website at http://www.utahtourdedonut.org and click on the Register Now buttons and links. Unlike last year's event, where we had several links - depending on the type of registration, you have one link which will take you to the registration site where you can make your selection.

You can register as an Individual, Tandem Team, Family, or TEAM (5 Members/Team). You can also register as a volunteer. We will need close to 100 Volunteers this year.

You will also have the option of ordering a 2011 Tour de Donut Cycling Jersey (Design being finalized) or a 2011 Utah Tour de Donut T-Shirt (Design being finalized). As soon as those designs are finished, they will be posted to the website and notifications will be sent out so that everyone can view them. Each paid registrant will receive a 2011 Tour de Donut T-Shirt as part of their registration fee. Volunteers will receive a 2011 Tour de Donut T-Shirt as a thank you for volunteering. If you do not plan on volunteering or participating in the event, but still want a T-Shirt, you can order one. T-Shirts must be picked up on the Day of the Event (July 16, 2011) and can be shipped if appropriate.

As always, if there are any questions, let us know! We look forward to seeing you at the 2011 Utah Tour de Donut on July 16, 2011 in American Fork, UTAH!

Are you calendaring out 2011 yet? If not you should be!

We would like to THANK YOU for participating in one or more of our prior Utah Tour de Donuts! Your participation and the success of this event have us looking for ways to improve over prior events.

The 2011 Utah Tour de Donut will be held on July 16, 2011 at the Provo College, American Fork Utah Campus. We are scheduled to start at 9:00 AM.

A few changes over prior year events:

1. We will be implementing Chip Timing. Every registered rider will have a Chip that will be attached to their bike helmet. This will help with the DNS / DNF issues we have had in years past with video. It will also speed up the results which will speed up getting to the Awards Presentation.

2. We are adding a TEAM division. Teams of 5 riders will be able to compete for Team Prizes as well as individual prizes. We encourage creativity as you try to identify your team from other teams on the course. We also encourage the raising of funds outside of the Utah Tour de Donut Event. The team(s) that raise the most funds outside the event, presenting those funds on July 16, 2011 (Event Day) will receive a special prize.

3. We are bringing back the Youth Division (Age 13 and Under).

4. Podium Finish and Prizes will be given to the First, Second, and Third Place winners in each category. Male and Female - with the exception of the Tandem Division (only top three Tandem Teams will be recognized on the podium). Podium Finish is also based upon ADJUSTED TIMES. Just because you cross the finish line first, that does not guarantee you a podium finish! The variable of DONUTS EATEN comes into play in a huge way!

5. We are considering a prize for the most creative costumes for the Tandem Division - so, those of you that ride tandem bikes, start thinking now of what you will be doing! We appreciate the creativity and enthusiasm tha comes from the Tandem Division each year.

6. We will open registration up for the 2011 Utah Tour de Donut on or around February 1, 2011. We are revamping the website and revamping the registration site. Announcements will be forthcoming as to when registration goes live.

7. We will have a cycling jersey that will be available to those who wish to purchase it. Shirt Design will be up on the website as soon as we have it available. This is not part of the normal registration process and will cost extra as an add on.

8. Registration fees have gone up this year. This is partially because we are utilizing Chip Timing and need to cover the increased cost. It is also because we have been advised by outside parties that we are priced too low relative to the type of event that we are hosting. Because this is a Fund Raiser to help projects of the Rotary Club of American Fork, Utah as well as to fund donations to other charitable causes, we have chosen to implement the higher registration fees.

9. We are actively looking for SPONSORS for our event. If you know of a business that would be interested in SPONSORING the 2011 Utah Tour de Donut, let us know and we will get them our SPONSOR Packet.

Thank you all for your participation in years past. We look forward to seeing you again this year.

As always, if you have suggestions, we would love to hear them. Suggestions from our participants are areas that we strongly consider for implementation. We hope to bring you the BEST UTAH TOUR DE DONUT so far in July of 2011.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in July!
