Dreams for Kids DC

Extreme Recess White House Tour!

On November 5th, 30 people attended the White House with Dreams for Kids for a tour. Through each room museum docent secret service officers explained the history and interesting facts of each room. The group toured the first floor, exploring the Library, State Dining Room, Map Room, along with many others.

The kids and their families all enjoyed the tour! The White House tour, like our other Extreme Recess events, gave the kids some time to learn, doing something truly special, and spend time with their family and other children their age.

Caps Give Back!

Capitals Alex Ovechkin and Mike Green continue their tradition of buying season tickets as part of Ovi's Crazy 8s and Green's Gang. Kids and their families experience home games free of charge and meet the players privately after the game. In the past few years, Ovi's Crazy 8s and Green's Gang have reached out to over 3,000 children, soldiers, and families!

The tickets are donated every game to Most Valuable Kids DC. MVK distributes unused tickets to children that would enjoy the opportunity to go to a live event, but would otherwise not be able to because of the high cost associated with tickets. Thanks to MVK we were able to send along some of our families to the game!

Just For Us Foundation Partners with DFK!

We are very excited to have Just For Us Foundation partnering with DFK for Holiday for Hope!

Just For Us Foundation provides games and recreation for families with special needs and at-risk youth, with an ultimate goal of opening a center in D.C. Just For Us was started in 2009 by Dr. Andrée Harris, a mother of children with special needs.

Earlier this month, The Just For Us Foundation had their first Walk-A-Thon event in Maryland. The event raised money for their programs including My Father, My Mother, and Me (FMM) and the Striving To Achieve Results (STAR) program.

Ray Heisler Sings for Hope This Holiday Season!

28 year old lyricist and rapper Ray Heisler is no stranger to adversity. He was born with Multiple Sclerosis and sever Dyslexia. Despite the limitations that come with his conditions, Ray has never stopped believing in hope and reaching out to others. This holiday season Ray is selling his new album, "Love, Life, and Everything in Between" to help fundraiser for Holiday for Hope! "My Hope is that these new songs will inspire something positive in the children involved with Dreams for Kids projects. If even one child is helped by my work, then that will be enough."

Ray will be performing at Holiday for Hope on December 18th, 2011! Come out and see Ray and to attend as a volunteer go here!
