Happy Birthday Dreams For Kids DC. Tomorrow, Saturday, July 16, Dreams For Kids hosts its third annual Extreme Recess water skiing at Ponhick Bay Regional Park. This event marks the three year anniversary of Dreams For Kids in the Washington DC area.
For the event, DFK has partnered with Chessie Marine Sales, On the Edge, Hoffmaster's Marina and The Coble Waterski and Wakeboard School to host this adaptive water skiing clinic. The day will include water ski lessons, tubing, kayaking, arts and crafts and other outdoor activities.
Meterologist Brian Van De Graaff of ABC/WJLA will film a broadcast at the event. Van De Graaff has expressed great excitement about interacting with the participants and volunteers.
Completely sold out, the event will host more than 70 area youth. Those planning to attend, we encourage you to bring the following: sunscreen, hats/sunglasses, picnic blankets,
breakfast foods (coffee provided), change of clothes and towels.
Get excited and make sure to e-mail and tell Andrew Horn happy three year anniversary. If the past two years have meant anything to you and your family feel free to let him know.

Looking for a great way to get involved and give back to the community? You know Dreams For Kids has got you covered.
Between Extreme Recess, Holiday For Hope and Dream Leaders, the opportunities do not stop.
Dreams For Kids prides its self on a 1:1 ratio for every Extreme Recess sports clinic. Consider spending the afternoon as a child's idol, making them feel special and showing them the time of their lives. Links to sign up for all events can be found on our calendar.
Completely revamped, Dream Leaders now offers 12 new service opportunities yearly. Based on the UN Millenium Development Goals, most projects will serve the following areas: poverty, hunger, education, gender equality, child and maternal health, HIV/AIDS, environmental sustainability and global partnership. "The Dream Leaders program will be a great way for adolescents from diverse backgrounds to unite with their peers, get involved in making a difference and engage in service-learning projects, with an emphasis on the learning aspect," Dream Leaders Project Manager, Brittany Shornstein said.
With so many platforms to serve your community, volunteering and finding a passion has never been easier.
Feel free to contact our office with all questions about volunteering and getting involved.
| Howard For Holiday For Hope |
It is that time again, Holiday For Hope is around the corner on December 18 and planning is well under way. Howard University has proudly agreed to host the event for another year.
For DFK, Holiday For Hope proves more than just an opportunity to service the homeless and at risk youth community. It is a nostalgic and meaningful experience. The event remains DFK's legacy event, starting our whole organization 12 years ago in Chicago.
"Our first event fell on the day of snomageden," Andrew Horn said, reflecting on how DC's first Holiday For Hope nearly got snowed out. Horn laughed remebering how he spent the entire next day wearing a santa hat and delivering un-received gifts to various shelters through out the city.
A special event indeed, Holiday For Hope 2011 has promised no different. "The day is best defined by the smiles on children's faces during the event. It is one day of pure madness, fun, celebration, giving and above all hope," Fundraising Director, Eric Kufta said.
Do not miss out. On December 18, Howard University is the place to be.

Extreme Recess Golf | |
Introducing Extreme Recess Golf.
Dreams For Kids has teamed up with The First Tee to put on an adaptive golf clinic. The clinic will take place on Saturday, August 27, at the Langston Golf Course on Benning Road in N.E. Washington.
Do not wait to sign up, the clinic only has spots open for the first 25 partcicpants. All children and adults ages four to 24 are welcome to take part in the event.
Volunteers age 15 and older are needed as always. Golf experience is encouraged for all volunteers, but not required.
The event, like all Extreme Recess events, will celebrate the unique ability in all children, helping them turn the adversity in their lives into opportunity.
With over 12,000 children currently living with disabilities in the Washington D.C area, it is vital that we spread awareness about the importance and power athletics can play in the lives of children with disabilities.
Do not miss out on the fun, sign up here.
