In times of overwhelm, where does your Self-Love slink off to? Or in a flash, does your confident Self dash away, escaping stage left at record pace?
Please be assured that Self-Loving Kindness is ALWAYS available to you... if you pause, if you look, if you ask, and if you allow. Give yourself the gift of space to love yourself...even in the funky, awkward spiralling of overwhelm. In such moments, where better to turn than an open kind heart!
Sounds easy in theory, but are you doing it each day? If not, what stands in your way of Self-Loving Kindness? For many of us - and I am a HUGE culprit of this myself! - it is 'trying.' Yes, by 'attempting' to make kindness a part of daily life, we can actually go against the flow of our 'default' thoughts and feelings. We shift into 'efforting' to find and apply kindness to ourselves, as if it's the least natural action in the world. We 'try'...which in itself can be 'trying!'
In fact, for me at times it can actually feel like Self-Loving Kindness is an assault on myself. It's my deserve-ability dance out of sync! Instead of accepting my own kindness, my natural response can be to punish myself with thoughts like: 'only some people deserve love.' That's when I recognize my vulnerability - I get so far 'out of self-love' that I jump knee deep into fear. What drives me there? For the most part, a false sense that self-kindness is weakness - that somehow kindness to myself implies that I am not strong. Only, being kind to oneself is possibly the strongest gift of all - honouring yourself. Oddly, while rejecting my own kindness, I welcome the joy-filled kindness of others. It's as if rejecting their kindness would insult them...yet I insult myself by not rejoicing in my own Self-Care, Self-Compassion, and Self-Loving Kindness.
Today, consider releasing 'trying' to be kind to yourself, swapping it for 'allowing' kindness. Connecting with love, compassion, and care for yourself brings peace to your mind, your body, and your heart. Sound like 'effort?' So how about 'trying' these four tips for finding your way into Self-Loving Kindness more often and more easily:
Pause: Acknowledge The Moment - Right now, where does self-kindness exist in your life? How is it being expressed (or even shared) in this breath? What is working, what is lovely, and what are you grateful for here and now?
Look: Remember Your Own Goodness - Where is goodness in your life today? Where was it as a child? Where is it in your authentic self? How can it exist by simply 'being' you?
Ask: Discover The Caring You - What would 'care' do? What would 'compassion' think? What would 'calm' say? What would 'balance' feel? Where could there be more self-kindness in your life now?
Allow: Accept The Way It Is - What space exists in your life for kindness? What would happen if you accepted loving yourself 'just as you are?' How can you allow your kindness to expand? What would happen if Self-Loving Kindness became your new default?
Just as you may recognize your pain at times, you can also celebrate your goodness. Self-Loving Kindness comes with reconnecting with the goodness of your heart. It is the light that fills your being when you give it space in your life, allowing it to find its way in. Rather than 'try,' play with 'allow.' How would your life be different if you let Self-Loving Kindness rule?
