Thanksgiving and Football: A Winning Combination!

On January 31, 1957, the Canadian Parliament proclaimed:
"A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God
for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed ...
to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October."
Looking ahead to October 11th, we are excited for our Annual Alouettes Thanksgiving Supper at the Men's Mission! Every year, more than 300 homeless men are served a special turkey dinner at the shelter by none other than the Montreal Alouettes football players. It's a thrill for our patrons who have told us they look forward to it all year! They get to meet their sports heroes who inspire and encourage them!
Als players also glean from this tradition. Not only are they thankful for their own bounty, but they likewise get support and encouragement. Team Chaplain Tom Paul recalls one Thanksgiving when the players were feeling a little down after their loss to the BC Lions. Upon arrival at the Mission to serve dinner to the homeless, they were championed and lauded by the patrons for their effort. Players left inspired and refocused. Maybe that's why they keep winning championships!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Players who participated in the 2009 Thanksgiving Supper:
Chip Cox, Avon Cobourne, Walter Spencer, Brandon Whitaker, Keron Williams, Diamond Ferri, Mark Estelle, Anwar Stewart, Kerry Carter, Dahrran Diedrick, Anthony Calvillo
