DECEMBER 2011

The Spirit of Christmas

It's beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas

Our food bank area has been transformed into a toyland for our
Christmas For All toy distribution this weekend! For many children, these are the only toys they will be getting this Christmas. We've created a festive setting, where each child will also enjoy face-painting, live musical performances, ornament decorating and a treat from Santa and Mrs. Claus!! It will also bring relief to their parents who are going through tough financial times.Christmas for All 2010

Robert* moved his family to Montreal from the Ukraine where he was a doctor. Studying for his Quebec equivalency degrees, he is grateful for the help. "Without Welcome Hall Mission... I don't know what we would do!"

Next week, many of these same families will be receiving Christmas Baskets filled with all the trimmings for a hearty and healthy holiday! With an increase in demand, Family Services is aiming to distribute more baskets than ever before thanks to the loyal and generous support of our donors!

Operation Christmas Child

Mission EmployeesWhile preparing for the various special events we are holding this
Christmas season, Welcome Hall Mission employees teamed up to help children in Haiti through Operation Christmas Child.  We filled up 100 shoe boxes to be given to boys and girls aged 5-9 this Christmas. It's a great team-building experience and change of pace during a busy period!

Employee AppreciationNicole and Cyril Morgan

On November 30th, we had an Employee Appreciation Evening for our wonderful staff who work so hard all year round bringing joy to others. We had the opportunity to honour Nicole who will be retiring this spring after 12 years with our Family Services.

Special thanks to Le Baron Royal and The Montreal Gospel Choir for their excellent service, wonderful food and uplifting entertainment, and to Hôtel Le Chantecler for their generous support!

'TIS THE SEASON FOR FOOD DRIVES

Once again this year, Radio Ville-Marie is holding a food and toy drive for our Annual Christmas Campaign. Until December 20th, listeners are invited to drop off non-perishable food items and toys at their studio; 4020 St-Ambroise (Suite 199) in St-Henri.

And if you're in the neighbourhood, you can also stop by Sweet Lee's Rustic Bakery; 291 Beaudoin. This new country-style bakery was opened just a few months ago by 23 year old Liana (Sweet Lee), with the help of her entrepreneurial brother and mom who also lend a hand in the kitchen.

So drop off a canned good and pick up a baked good! Or better yet... stop by Sweet Lee's 1st Community Table - A Tasting Menu Event on Sunday December 11, 2011 at 12pm or 3pm. Entry fee is a food or cash donation for Welcome Hall Mission!

When you're downtown, be sure to drop off non-perishables at Fusion Montreal, an innovative ice cream parlor located at 1000 de la Gauchetière. Then you can reward yourself!
