Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

It's a brilliant time of year to be in the Great Smoky National Park and the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville area of Tennessee. Besides the natural beauty, Bob and I have been enjoying southern foods, Dollywood, and other tourist attractions.

Wherever there are tourists, there are seasonal jobs for RVers. Dollywood hires hundreds of workers who do everything from fire a coal steam train to usher at the theaters. But, besides that, this area is full of smaller amusement parks, attractions, shows, museums, gift stores, eateries, motels, and other service businesses that hire short-term and seasonal workers.

Read the job description or ask what your duties will be before accepting the position. You may put on your resume or application that you "don't do windows." However, that doesn't mean someone won't offer you a position that includes washing the windows.

Workers have preferences of what they like and don't like to do. Employers have ideals of what they want in an employee -- the perfect educational background, skill set, personality, and work ethic for the job. The final employee-employer agreement usually involves negotiation and compromise.

If something is a deal breaker for you, it is your responsibility to inquire about it before you take the job. You can't safely assume that just because you said you don't like to do something it won't be part of your job responsibilities.

Be sure to look at the variety of help wanted ads and the new articles that we've been posting on the website.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip -- Don't Argue or Berate in Public

While it is okay to disagree with your boss, do so discreetly. Chastising your supervisor in public seldom leads to anything positive. In a similar vein, bad-mouthing your supervisor or the company to customers seldom leads to anything positive.
