Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

The purpose of your resume is to get you a job interview – not sympathy. Right, you knew that. But, some of the other folks reading this newsletter weren't aware of it. Or, they have forgotten, and needed a reminder. The resumes and Work Wanted ads we receive bear that out, time and time again.

Putting info about family illnesses; how you were treated wrongly at your last job; how your wife cheated on you; or how no one will give you a chance to work; or some other unfortunate circumstance in your resume does not make you a more desirable applicant. That info makes it look like you are looking for sympathy rather than work.

When putting together your resume and Work Wanted ads, focus on the positive. Keep them upbeat. Project an enthusiast, can-do attitude. Doing so is far more important than listing all those jobs you had years (decades?) ago.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

JR Watkins - A Location Independent Business for RVers

Sell J. R. Watkins natural products. Bob and I have been Independent Consultants with Watkins since 2005. People love the pure seasonings, old-time remedies, natural skin care, and natural cleaning products. It's an old Minnesota company, with products still made in the USA. They are not tested on animals. The business is extremely flexible. You do as much or as little as you want. No minimum orders. They'll drop-ship orders to your customers for you. Work the business wherever your RV travels take you -- USA or Canada.

Working RVer Tip

People buy from people like themselves. RVers tend to trust RVers. Many full-timers prefer to do business with other full-timers. There's also much loyalty to camping and RVing clubs. Sort of like keeping the business in the family.

Certification Cards, Licenses, and Completion Documents

Certification cards, licenses, and completion documents. You've heard that bank advertisement that asks what you carry in your wallet. It's an important consideration for working RVers. However, we’re not talking about credit cards.

Earn Your Living with a Blog or Website

A blog or website is yet another way to earn a living without being tied to one location. Your blog can be about most anything. Picking a topic that you enjoy can make it seem more like fun than work. Still, you have to figure out a way to make money with it. SoloBuiltIt! (SBI!) is an all-in-one program that guides you from picking a profitable website topic, to building the actual site, to keeping up with ever-changing technology. Yes, we use SIB! for our Workers On Wheels website.

Use the Local Newspaper to Find Who is Hiring and for What Positions

The local newspaper is still an excellent place for job information. The paper I picked up this morning has an article about a new resort opening this summer. That follows an article on tourism jobs.

Working RVer Tip

When someone suggests a new way to earn money while RVing, don't brush it off as something that isn't right for you. Instead, use the idea as a catalyst to come up with something that does suit you.

Working RVer Tip

How many hours you should work in exchange for your RV site is totally up to you. It depends on how many hours you are willing to work without feeling the campground owner (or other employer) is taking advantage of you.
