Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Although it is mid-July, it is not too late to be looking for work for this summer. We continue to receive emails from campground owners and others with immediate openings. Positions are out there, both for now and for next season. And, for those who really like to plan ahead, there's at least one Help Wanted ad taking applications for the summer of 2019.

I never know which of Bob's working while RVing experiences he is going to write about next. He unknowing picked the perfect topic to write about for this issue: working special projects and special events at campgrounds. His article a few weeks back about working the Sturgis bike rally mentioned that campgrounds hire extra staff during bike week. (The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally: Thousands of Short-Term Jobs for RVers) But, even more spot-on, is that this week we have a Help Wanted ad from a Wyoming RV park looking for short-term help -- a couple weeks -- to help with their solar eclipse events in mid-August. And, yes, just as in the examples Bob tells you about in his article, it pays real money (as opposed to bartered benefits).

If you've wondered about working with one of the campground site map companies, but don't know much about it, we have the article for you. We went right to the source for accurate information -- Southeast Publications. If you've stayed in a campground or RV park, you've probably seen the results of your fellow working RVers who do this kind of work.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working at an RV Park: Short-Term Work, Helping with Special Projects

Working at an RV park isn't always being a seasonal camphost. Some campground and RV park jobs are for specific events or special projects. This article is about some short-term work I've done.

Mandatory Utilities?

Are utilities mandatory? We have a poll on our website, asking what work benefits are important to you. It's a two-point poll. One asks you to check off the benefits and perks that you consider important. The other asks you to pick the three most important. Additionally, there's a place for comments. One of the comments raises the question of the necessity of water, sewer, and electric hook-ups.

Working RVer Tip -- Don't Brag about Your Short-Comings

Leave your weaknesses out of your Work Wanted ad. There's no reason to tell potential employers your problems, your mistakes, your lack of experience, or your lack of skills. Instead, focus on what makes you a desirable employee.

Working RVer Tip -- Consider an Unpaid Leave of Absence

You may be able to take an unpaid leave of absence. If you intend to return to the area after a few months, instead of quitting, ask for an unpaid leave of absence. This works well for snowbirds who travel in the summer, but spend winters at a destination park. Or, for those who stay one place for the summer and travel the south during the winters. Job seniority may continue to accrue, leading to pay raises or better benefits. It is a positive for employers, as they do not need to hire and train new staff.
