Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Folks in the planning stages often ask how much it costs to be a full-time RVer. We give an "it depends" type answer. We know that isn't what they want to hear. But, here's a perfect example of why that is the best answer: The cost of RV parking. We're staying at an RV park on the water, in Port Isabel, Texas. Our site cost here, complete with electricity, is less than $350 a month. When we were looking at relocating, several folks sent us suggestions. I checked the websites on some of them and found the rates astounding. While I'm sure they are just what some folks want, I cannot imagine paying over $1200 a month for a site. The flip side are the full-timers who boondock or find other ways to keep their RV parking costs down to near-zero, and think the $350 we are paying is excessive.

You can advertise your skills by letting people see you at work. If you are a seamstress, hem a pair of pants while sitting outside under your awning where RVers walking by can see you. If you make wind chimes to sell, make them while sitting out at your picnic table. If you do RV detailing, let your neighbors see you polishing your motorhome. We had a personal reminder of how effective this tactic is today, while Bob was out replacing the water inlet valve on our LazyDaze.

A couple of quick tips:
  • A cheerful, positive attitude is often more important than job experience.
  • First impressions are vital. Develop a good, firm handshake.
Thank you so much for all the birthday greetings this past week. You helped to make my day extra special.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

JR Watkins - A Location Independent Business for RVers

Bob and I have been selling JR Watkins products since 2005. People love the vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper, the old time remedies, and the natural skin care products - and that makes it easy to sell. The business is extremely flexible. You do as much or as little as you want. No minimum orders. They'll drop-ship the products for you. Work the business wherever your RV travels take you -- USA or Canada. See the product catalog and learn more.

Working RVer Tip -- Have Tools

Find room to take the tools of your trade with you in the RV. You might not be able to take all of them. But, for many trades, you can make room for at least the basic tools. Having your tools makes it easier to find everything from odd jobs to full-time, temporary employment.

Lend a Hand: Kindness Is Repaid, Sometime Monetarily with a Job

Lend a hand without being asked. It isn't really volunteering. What I'm talking about are incidental times when you step in and help to be kind. When you just do something because you know it will really help someone. And, you don't have the ulterior of motive of getting paid, or even getting an RV parking site out of the deal. But, it ends up that you do get paid.

The rest of this article shares examples of times we ended up with jobs (or job offers) simply because we were lending a helping hand.

Working RVer Tip -- Follow Application Instructions

When applying for a job, follow the instructions in the ad and on the application. It shows you can – and are willing to – follow directions. Additionally, there's likely a specific reason for them. For example, if it tells you to make contact by email, it could be that the employer wants to see your written communication skills.
