Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

It's time I repeat some fundamental advice:

~ Don't travel to an area for the sole purpose of working at one specific job. Go to an area where you want to stay for a while, whether or not that specific job pans out for you.

~ Pay to stay at a campground before you agree to work there. Get a feel for it. See the RV sites and the facilities. Meet the workers, the folks who use the park, and the owners or managers.

I know you may disagree. You may say it isn't practical. Well, ask the folks who traveled over a thousand miles, spent what money they had on gas, and found out they didn't like the job they committed to, and didn't want to be in that part of the country, just how practical their plan worked out for them.

Following the above two pieces of advice can save you time, frustration, and a wallet full of money.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

JR Watkins - A Location Independent Business for RVers

Bob and I have been selling JR Watkins products since 2005. People love the vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper, the old time remedies, and the natural skin care products - and that makes it easy to sell. The business is extremely flexible. You do as much or as little as you want. No minimum orders. They'll drop-ship the products for you. Work the business wherever your RV travels take you -- USA or Canada. See the product catalog and learn more.

Working RVer Tip - Take a Leave of Absence

You may be able to take an unpaid leave of absence. If you intend to return to the area after a few months, instead of quitting, ask for an unpaid leave of absence. This works well for snowbirds who travel in the summer, but spend winters at a destination park. Or, for those who stay one place for the summer and travel the south during the winters. Job seniority may continue to accrue, leading to pay raises or better benefits. It is a positive for employers, as they do not need to hire and train new staff.

Paid Work Putting Up Christmas Decorations

Put up Christmas lights and Christmas decorations in the fall and early winter. Take them down after the first of the year. Companies pay hourly wages. With some, there are enough hours available for overtime -- with overtime pay. Decorating companies put up lights and decorations for individuals and businesses. Theme parks and attractions also pay people to put up and take down holiday decor.

Working RVer Tip - Make It Easy for Employers to Reach You

Not all employers carry a cell phone. Not all employers have or regularly use email. Yes, even in this day and age. If you use both, put both in your ads, on your resume, and on your job applications.

Short Term Employment Agencies

You want to work for someone else. You want to move frequently. You want to pick and choose when and where you work, and for how long. You want to get paid. Look to temporary staffing agencies. I used to think that temp agencies placed office workers, only. But, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Temp agencies hire rocket scientists for high tech jobs. They hire construction workers, events people, and farm workers. They hire for manufacturing jobs, waste management, and the hospitality industry. Special temp agencies specialize in placing doctors, nurses and other medical professionals. Some hire general labor for day jobs, while others have assignments for weeks or months.

We have a series of articles on the Workers On Wheels website about working for temp services.
