Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Don't let life get in the way of living. Someone emailed last week saying, "We sold our RV. Life got in the way." How sad. Oh, I know. Full-time RVing isn't right for everyone. There comes a time when folks decide they want a change. If people choose a lifestyle change because they want that change, I'm happy for them. But, if you want to be a working RVer, find a way. You have more options than you can imagine.

I read on a working-on-the-road forum that RVers need to find campground jobs eight months prior to the work season. That's plain and simple BS. We have many job listings coming in now for the summer 2017 season. That's six weeks to two months out, less in some places. Year round, we get ads looking for workers to start immediately.

If lining up the job you'll do a year from now makes you feel secure, then do it. There are places that do offer contracts nine months or a year ahead of time. But, it certainly isn't necessary.

Consider attending a job fair. Not an RV worker specific event, but a community job fair, open to anyone. Many of the jobs will be summer, seasonal jobs. Many will be temporary positions, starting late spring and ending late summer. They'll be jobs at tourist related businesses, including B&Bs, fishing charters, resorts, attractions, retail stores, restaurants, and hotels. And, there will be jobs in other seasonal industries, such as construction, fishing, and summer recreation programs.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

JR Watkins - A Location Independent Business for RVers

Bob and I have been selling JR Watkins products since 2005. People love the vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper, the old time remedies, and the natural skin care products - and that makes it easy to sell. The business is extremely flexible. You do as much or as little as you want. No minimum orders. They'll drop-ship the products for you. Work the business wherever your RV travels take you -- USA or Canada. See the product catalog and learn more.

Working RVer Tip -- Number of Hours to Work for Site

There is no "standard" number of hours to work in exchange for an RV site. It depends on the needs and desires of all parties involved. Don't be bamboozled by someone telling you the "standard" agreement is for a certain number of hours work per week. Decide what is right for you.

Campground Pay Rates: Competing with High School Kids for Campground Jobs

Campground pay rates, for jobs requiring limited skills, are often low. Campground owners base pay on the job requirements and on who is willing to do the job, not on your qualifications. If the work requires the skills of a teenage high school dropout, minimum wage is about all you can expect.

Working RVer Tip -- Personal Networking

Ask your RVing friends where they are working and where they have worked in the past. They may tell you about positions they highly recommend. We often hear of RVers who are very happy with a job and employer, but they don't plan to return next year simply because they want to experience something new.

If you are applying for work at a campground or RV park, and you have building or repair skills, be sure to list them on your resume. Maintenance, building, and repair skills are usually in high demand. Specify what you are able to do, such as carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, small engine repair, pool maintenance, or operating tractors.
