Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor
If you want to work in exchange for an RV site in Arizona, the Texas Rio Grande Valley, or other southern location, now is an excellent time to get the job. Snowbirds are now deciding where they will actually
spend the winter. That means job cancellations galore. Each year there's a rush of last minute openings as RVers who made plans months ago now end up going somewhere else. This leaves RV parks scrambling for workers to fill the vacancies.
In the "Ways RVers Make Money" section of this newsletter each week, we list
various kinds of work RVers do cut expenses and produce an income. Some require specialized training. Some require the worker be in good physical shape. Some are very part time and pay very little. Others are full-time jobs that pay Davis-Bacon wages. I sometimes hear from our readers telling me these kinds of jobs are not appropriate for working RVers. I agree that no one type of job is right for every working RVer. However, all of those jobs are right for some RVers. Use that list to get
ideas, and as a starting point for finding work that is right for you.
Bob and I are in Kansas. The clerk at a thrift shop this morning asked us how long we had been traveling to get here from Alaska. He looked rather surprised when we answered that we'd left Alaska in September. Visits with friends took us to Oregon,
Utah, and Colorado. We then visited with relatives in Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota. We stopped to get some repairs done on the motorhome. We've stopped for down time, to work, and to do everyday living stuff such as laundry. As we pulled into the third thrift shop of the day -- to take a quick look -- we exchanged glances and Bob made some comment about why we don't get many miles in some days. I think today is going to be a 40-mile day! And, that is precisely why we like RV life and
travel.

What kind of people do you want to live and work
with every day? If you like peace and quiet, you may not be a good fit for a campground that caters to kids. If you want to socialize with others in the park, you may feel lonely if all your neighbors are oil field workers who go off to their jobs. If you are a young family, you may feel excluded at a 55-plus resort. Ask the park owner about the atmosphere at the park and about the typical guest.
