Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Start your job search with the end result in mind. Why are you looking for the position? RV site? Wages? Socialize with other RVers? Perks such as free admission to theme parks? To get campground management experience? Knowing what you want out of the job makes it easier to find a job that is a good fit.

Are you working a job that is specifically tied to the holidays? Perhaps at Amazon's fulfillment center, or manning a meat and cheese gift kiosk, or managing a Christmas tree lot? Or, perhaps you are standing in for Santa Claus at the local department store, selling crafts at holiday bazaars, or working the Christmas show at a theme park? Are you writing letters from Santa, catering Christmas parties, or making and selling the home-baked Christmas cookies? If you are doing one of these jobs or something else related to Christmas, would you please take a few minutes to tell us about it? You can email your responses to me at [email protected]. Thanks!

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip -- Spell Things Out for Clear Communication

Abbreviations and acronyms shorten up your Work Wanted and Help Wanted advertisements, and your resumes. They also make them more difficult to understand. You may be surprised to find out just how many people who live in recreational vehicles or work in (or own) campgrounds don't know the short hand that you take for granted. "MH" is a good example. To some that means "mobile home" and to others it is "motorhome."

Self-Employment Gives You Maximum Freedom

We often hear from RVers who don't want to be tied to one location for months at a time. We also often hear from RVers who are tired of being micro-managed, and don't want to be told how to do the job. Self-employment is the answer for both of these groups of people.

Earn Your Living with a Blog or Website

A blog or website is yet another way to earn a living without being tied to one location. Your blog can be about most anything. Picking a topic that you enjoy can make it seem more like fun than work. Still, you have to figure out a way to make money with it. If you'd like to see some examples of how of how others are going about it, see the case studies on SiteBuildIt!

Working RVer Tip -- Gratuities for Working RVers

You know tips are important to restaurant workers. But, have you considered other jobs for RVers that pay good tips? With customer service jobs, the money you get in gratuities can easily be more than your wages. Tips make up a good part of the income for tour guides, bus drivers, hunting and fishing guides, restaurant staff, water taxi drivers, deck hands, housekeepers, entertainers, pizza delivery drivers, and beauticians.

Something to Think About

Probably the reason we all go so haywire at Christmas time with the endless unrestrained and often silly buying of gifts is that we don't quite know how to put our love into words. ~ Harlan Miller

My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that? ~ Bob Hope
