Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Last week's advice against traveling far and wide for the sole purpose of a job generated both agreement and confusion.

Joseph writes, "Your opening to this newsletter couldn't have been more real."

Another reader writes, "Let me understand you. It cost you all your money to travel to a job to check it out by staying in the campground but that is different than spending all your money to travel to a job and go to work and find the job not to your liking, but this is cheaper? Also many positions are filled in the winter for summer jobs in the north where everything is covered with snow and the campground probably is not even open. How do you travel to check it out then before accepting the job?

I'm glad she asked for clarification. Others have the same questions, but didn't bother to ask.

if you follow the advice I gave, you do not travel to anywhere just to check out a job -- before or after you are hired. That's the point. You don't travel and spend money for the sole purpose of checking out a job. You go to an area where you want to spend time -- job or no job.

We're loving our summer in Alaska. One of the benefits is that other RVers who are here are stopping by to chat. Meeting you face-to-face is a pleasure!

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

JR Watkins - A Location Independent Business for RVers

Bob and I have been selling JR Watkins products since 2005. People love the vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper, the old time remedies, and the natural skin care products - and that makes it easy to sell. The business is extremely flexible. You do as much or as little as you want. No minimum orders. They'll drop-ship the products for you. Work the business wherever your RV travels take you -- USA or Canada. See the product catalog and learn more.

Working RVer Tip - Follow Success to Success

Follow the lead of those who are succeeding. When looking for advice or examples, turn to those who are already RVing and making a living. Others who are still looking may mean well, but if they had the best answers they'd probably already be living their dream.

Working Campers Advising or Offering Ideas to Campground Owners

When working campers advise campground owners as to what's the best way to run their business, is there bound to be friction? Is it possible for the workers to offer opinions without offending the boss? And, just where is the line between an employee making a suggestion and where it turns into the employee telling the employer how to do things?

A working RVer wrote about the owners of a particular campground, "They misinterpret your ideas and/or comments as if you are telling them how to run their business."

What's the difference?

Working RVer Tip - Have an Exit Plan

No matter how much you've researched a position and think it is the right one for you, have an exit plan. You never know when things won't work out. I'm not advocating backing out of an obligation. I'm talking about having a "Plan B" and some idea of what you will do if the job suddenly ends.

Working RVer Tip - One Business, Many Types of Work

One business may have many varied and unrelated jobs. For example, here are just a few of the jobs available at larger grocery stores: cake decorator, floral designer, meat cutter, cashier, cart pusher, deli worker, barista, someone to stock shelves during the night shift, pharmacist, and someone to work in the babysitting section.
